Yeah, but 1995-1996 were his first two years as a head coach. I’d rather lose by 100 to Nebraska in a regular season game than to get beat by 28 in the National Championship or lose by a touchdown to a Sun Belt school.

Miles calling timeout on a fourth down stop against Tennessee.

The championship game with Clemson was so uncharacteristic for an Alabama team with a big game on the line. So many boneheaded mistakes in addition to head scratching play calls. The fake field goal attempt and Tua with a QB keeper into the teeth of the Clemson defense on 4th and goal immediately come to mind.

The defense just flat out quit that game, especially Saivion Smith. I think Jacobs and Hurts were underutilized in that game. Hurts had just led a comeback against UGA and didn’t get a snap till garbage time. He isn’t the greatest passer, but changing the tempo of the game at halftime would’ve given Bama a chance.

Moorhead and Shoop against Florida 2018. Square peg round hole offense and shoop sits back and let's the llama beat us.

Yeah what's crazy is early on, Alabama was running the ball well but kept going back to Tua and the passing game which usually resulted in negative plays. And the defense...I turned to by brother after watching Clemson march right down the field for their second TD and said "Well we're gonna have to outscore them." Of course that didn't happen.

We had a chance to take control of the game in the second quarter. We were down 14-13 in the second quarter and had to settle for a field goal after being stopped on the goal line. We held Clemson on their next possession and got the ball back up 16-14. Tua was driving our offense before he threw a costly interception that turned momentum forever back to Clemson.

I've got three Joe Moorhead games that come to mind:

1. 2018 State at Kentucky - State was a Top 15 team and a double digit favorite on the road. The game was played in a rain storm and Kylin Hill got four carries. State also had a ton of penalties in that game and just totally unraveled. It was our first clue that "oh crap this guy is in over his head". Lost by 21 in a game where Kentucky had 300 yards of total offense. It turned out to be a good UK team but it was a completely embarrassing performance by State.

2. 2019 State at Auburn: Nobody thought State was going to win this game, but how it unraveled was pathetic. Delay of game before the first play from scrimmage, then down 21-0 within the first 6 minutes. It was 49-9 within the first two minutes of the 3rd quarter. Just an epitome of how poorly prepared Moorhead teams frequently were.

4. 2019 State at Tennesse: State was coming off a bye week and playing a 1-4 team and looked atrocious. Did not come close to scoring a TD until the 4th quarter, by which point the damage was already done. Moorhead was a dead man walking after that game, it was just a matter of when.

That's just the last two years for State, it would take me a while to put together a list of all of Croom's greatest hits.

Could probably pick any from the Morris era but the first thing that comes to mind for me is the 2008 Cotton Bowl against Missouri - Houston Nutt was on his way to Ole Miss so DC Reggie Herring was the interim coach.

We ran a fake punt and it didn't work, but there was a penalty on the play so we got the ball back and it was 4th down again. What did we do? We ran the EXACT SAME FAKE PUNT again and it failed miserably again

Locksley was so bad, I don't understand how he got that job. Like giving a 16 year old the keys to the Ferrari

Every time Bama runs the ball well, Bama stops running the ball. Never fails.

Every single game Mike Clappy DuBose coached in from 1997-2000. He was bailed out in 1999 by Alexander.

End of ole miss 2009
agree with this! Was on an overnight beach trip with the fam, and unfortunately we turned the tv on to check the score. I did a lot of yelling in the hotel room, and may have disturbed a wedding going on down at the pool. Lol. I think that game and the Miss State game 1982 were the most frustrating loses i remember. There are certainly PLENTY to choose from, over 40+ years!

Your offense had 235 net yards in the 2nd half. 153 of those yards (65%) came on two plays. The other 29 plays averaged 2.8 yards.

Saban 'begged' for the 1 second back because he didn't have faith in his defense to stop AU from 25 yards out. Would have been brilliant if his kicker could have pulled it off.

I don’t know if I blame the players or Croom but losing to freaking MAINE is the biggest embarrassment in school history. You rush for more yards, throw for more than 2 and 1/2 times more yards, find yourself near there endzone time after time and lose 9-7 lol. Nobody can say they had a bigger embarrassment than that. WE OWN THAT TITLE!

You’re Mississippi State. Losing games like those isn’t surprising.

This. If we’re talking incompetence, nothing tops this from an offensive coaching perspective no matter how much you try.

Almost any Les Miles game that required clock management at the end of the game.

When Garrick McGee (haaawk, ptui) was HC at UAB he once chose to kick off in both halves of the same game. Supposedly this was to express confidence in his defense or some other BS story.

I agree with you that Alabama wasn't winning that game in OT. Saban knew it. Now, had he taken it to OT, it would've have robbed y'all of that kick return, but the results would have been the same.
