Y’all are living in the past mind frame. No one cares about conference titles with a playoff system. Does anywhere care who won the NFC East two years ago or the AL Central? Future fans won’t give one care just like you guys don’t care that GT has more SEC titles than 75% of the current SEC teams. All that matters are playoff games. The SEC is the only conference of any sport who pretends their title matters. No other college conference or pro conference cares at all. I guarantee OSU has no care about another BIG title and I know the reason I care if my team wins the ACC is so we get the auto bid. If we were ranked #2 right now I’d be wishing we didn’t even play that game like UGA is hoping they don’t have to.

This was us in 2011. We won the SECCG and lost the BCSNCG.
Loosing the title game absolutely sucked. Still sucks. The experience and excitement leading up to the game, and the pomp and circumstance of being there leads me to believe I would rather be the runner up than simply just win the SEC.

It can be argued winning SEC title is tougher than a National title so I would rather SEC title over being runner up.

You’re just more articulate than I am. Cheers

As an Alabama fan, I am very excited when Alabama basketball wins a conference title or even a conference tournament title. I do not believe I am the only one who still gets excited about winning a conference title.

People are allowed to get excited over anything they want. I’m sure some people get excited over a Sunbelt Conference Championship. That’s fine. But winning a conference title in any sport and not making a deep playoff run is a waste. Go ahead and hang the banner and we’ll laugh just like when UCF hung their banner. I can promise that Nate Oats would rather be in the Sweet 16 than win a SEC Championship that is forgotten by the next Thursday.

One is a champion and the other is the losing team. Give me the championship.

I will always want the SEC title even setting aside that if you're the champ you're usually good enough to win the whole thing.

It would probably depend on who you beat in the playoffs to make it to the NCG. Beating juggernauts in the first few rounds versus sneaking by G5 and a lackluster conference champion (see Penn St last year). We're still new to the expanded playoffs so "making a special run" hasn't soaked in yet.
For contrast - basketball. I think most fans would take a Final Four run over winning a regular season or conference tournament title. Auburn has done all of them multiple times recently and I'm taking a great March Madness run over the trophies.

Only losers say this kind of stuff.

Don't mean to insult, but that question seems to smack of self doubt. Winning the SEC title is great, but the CFP title is the ultimate goal. Your question basically says you believe you're good enough to win the SEC, but have doubts that you're good enough to win the national title.

One of us is confused. First you said that making the NC game is better than winning the SEC. Then you said that winning the SEC is better than losing the NC game. In order to lose in the NC game you have to be in the NC game (which would make it better than winning the SEC), but if you lose the game then winning the SEC is better (which contradicts your first statement).
Yeah this thread is all sorts of fricked up

I think that it depends on your overall expectations.
Georgia won the SEC in 2024.
Kirby readily admitted that he didn't even expect to get to Atlanta in the first place because of the long list of injuries that mounted up for the better part of the season. The running attack was sub-par for a Georgia team.
Then Beck was injured in the SECCG and Stockton simply had limited experience.
Then the terrorist attack in New Orleans delayed the Sugar Bowl while Kirby was also dealing with the loss of his father.
Based on all of the above, I was happy to see UGA raise an SEC Championship banner in Sanford Stadium.

Yes, but I’m thinking you would have enjoyed a long playoff run with two victories in major New Years 6 bowls and a trip to the national championship game even more, even if you fell just short of the ultimate prize. The premise of this thread is silly.
Unsurprisingly, many Ole Miss fan seem to agree with it because they haven’t seen a national championship or even an SEC championship since the 1960s. I think they’re starved for an SEC championship and also they’re just preparing themselves mentally for an early playoff loss.

Of course, but I feel much better about the current Georgia team than I did about the 2024 team. With a completely healthy O line, a stout running attack, dynamic wide outs, the best TE room in the country, excellent kickers and a top 20 defense, Kirby has everything he needs to make a deep run.
But alas, there are no guarantees.
Twelve teams will enter the bracket and only one of those teams will win the last game that they play.
