I was fortunate to meet him when FAU traveled to Norfolk Virginia for a game. A fine coach and better man...

Hell of a football coach. Glad he got to see Lane settle into a great situation at Ole Miss these last few years. Not just professionally, but personally as well.

Lane owes everything he has today to this man.

Crazy how Lane is considered an offensive genius and Monte is a defensive pioneer.

RIP Monte, thoughts and prayers for the Kiffin's

I liked Monte. Great coach and a seemingly good guy, too.

Prayers to the Kiffin family.

I remember when you told that story on the board when it happened. Stories like that show that guys like him are just like guys like us, he just got to do for a living what we like to talk about on here. Blessed guy.

Thoughts and prayers to Monte and the Kiffin family.

Met him many times. He spoke at Dad's memorial. He was a really good man.

He's the last of the three.

Yeah, but dear old dad opened up a lot of doors for Lane that otherwise might not have been there.

The term football genius gets thrown around a lot but Monte Kiffin really was a genius at designing and implementing defenses. One reason Arkansas did so well under Lou Holtz was that we had a scary defense.

As Alabama demonstrated during the earlier years of Saban's tenure, a great defense combined with an efficient ball control offense will win you a lot of games. Well when he was on the Hill Arkansas had its share of games where our offense put up big numbers, but we also won quite a few grind out games because the other team had major issues just picking up a first down, let alone scoring points.

Then he followed that up with even greater success at the NFL and that is incredibly rare. Kiffin fundamentally altered how defense is played in the NFL and offenses were forced to adapt.

Monte Kiffin had a great run and he had a major impact on the sport of football.
