Mond’s ceiling would be if he turned into a Dilfer/Tannehill type QB. He won’t win you the game but he’ll keep you in the game and he definitely won’t lose it for you. His floor is Josh McCown which is to get paid for 16 years to hold a clipboard.

I'm not sure how to take A&M fans being convinced that his replacement will be better than him. Most of the cases of "we'll be better when the backup gets the job" don't turn out that way.

You watched Mond play right? He was like a combo of Bo Wallace, Josh Dobbs and AJ McCarron.

Inconsistent game manager with mediocre passing skills. Sure his replacement might be worse but he wasn't exactly Tua, Burrow, or Manziel.

Tannehill was on another level as a passer despite playing on a terrible Mike Sherman team. He was the 8th overall pick in the draft. Mond will be lucky to go in the first 4 rounds.

Tannehill was also terrible in Miami until he got to Tennessee and learned to limit turnovers, make short passes, and play within a system. Mond can succeed in that type of system.

True but coming out of college he was infinitely better than Mond. I'll be surprised if Mond goes before Round 4.

And I think Mond has some tools. He just needs a lot of work to develop as a QB.

True but what college QB outside of Trevor Lawrence doesn’t need a lot of work.

In his defense, here is the list of successful QBs in Miami since Dan Marino retired:

There are probably 9 or 10 QBs who will get drafted ahead of Mond.

Not sure what everybody on this site sees, but there was not one QB in this game that is a NFL starting quarterback. The talent in this game was not that good. I was not impressed with anybody.

There is a limit to how much you can polish a turd. I think Jimbo hit his limit with Mond.

The fact that A&M fans don’t really get the point of me saying that kinda makes me sad for y’all.

Expectations are a lot lower than I thought at A&M

Mond is shits. He won't be worth a frick in the nfl just like he wasn't worth a frick in the sec. He's severely overrated.

I agree with everything but the overrated part. Pretty much everyone including Aggie fans think he is mediocre. He has never been all conference or received any awards. Not sure who is overrating him because most of us rate him pretty damn low.

I don't disagree with this. Tennessee fans were mostly happy to see Dobbs move on I think. And we all know how that turned out.

Or maybe because he's the best because his compeition was Jamie Newman, Sam Ehlinger, Feleipe Franks, and Ian Book.

I mean, which of them really got hype and justified it? Maybe Ehlinger (and even he seemed like an overhyped prospect because Texas finally seemed somewhat competitive).

Let's dig a little deeper: 2021 Senior Bowl: Quarterbacks
quote:

Kellen Mond had the brightest moments of any quarterback who played in the Senior Bowl. This was because Mac Jones and Kyle Trask both sat out, but Mond still performed well and helped his 2021 NFL Draft stock.

Mond didn't begin all that well. His first drive featured two checkdowns and a pass that sailed out of bounds deep downfield. He then threw behind his receivers on third and fourth down despite connecting on a great back-shoulder throw to Trevon Grimes for a 23-yard gain earlier on the possession. Mond's next two drives featured a pair of potential interceptions. The first was an apparent gift because Mond misread the defense and didn't see the safety. The potential pick was dropped, however. Mond then nearly tossed an interception on a pass heaved into heavy traffic.

All of this, besides the back-shoulder throw, sounds terrible. Mond definitely began poorly, but he rebounded well after that. He threw a touchdown to Amari Rodgers, fitting the ball through a tight window. He fired a second touchdown later, which was hurled on a slant to Josh Palmer. Mond had the potential to lead another scoring drive when he delivered another nice, back-shoulder throw to Powell along the sideline, but the possession concluded with a Shi Smith drop.

Mond finished 13-of-25 for 173 yards and two touchdowns, winning the MVP trophy in the process. He had been inconsistent throughout his career at Texas A&M, so it wasn't a surprise that he had an up-and-down performance in Mobile.

Maybe, just maybe, we should hold off on crowning him a first round pick.
