I agree the Appalachian Mountain Music and Bluegrass are not going to sell many HS recruits on UT. Nashville is appealing not for the country music but it's a cool music town. I don't know where the Hip Hop clubs are but I'm sure there are a few... I think playing at Vandy is the reason Vandy can't recruit top players.
On a side note, the Mountain Music and Bluegrass are definitely worth seeing if you appreciate live music. Many of the musicians that are playing in east Tennessee and West North Carolina are direct descendants of the people who created the music in this small pocket of the Smokey Mountains. I'd call it a "music fossil," if such a thing existed.

What a ignorant arse post! Fact of the matter is the state of Tennessee doesn't produce that many D-1 prospects and never has, even with Nashville booming in population. SMDH!

this.
if Tennessee got every single top 15 player every year from the state of tn, they would still lack talent to compete in the sec
fact is they need a national recruiter, and some kind of excitment back in knoxville.
think about how bad lsu was early 90's. dinardo came in and gave a huge shot of hope into the program. and say what you want about him, saban never would have come here had dinardo not done massive ground work

Vandy players have to be able to read and write. UT has had a string of bad h coaches .

Vandy standards too high and Knoxville is far and isolated from the rest of the world. Music has nothing to do with its recruiting ability.

They did fine for many years when Nashville was even more country than today.

True...this article shows Tennessee as the 11th best state in the country for High School talent over a 5 year recruiting window...which equates to it being the 5th best state in the SEC, talent-wise. There is some really elite talent in Tennessee that has left the state over the last 10 years.
When you are limited in the number of elite players...you have to get nearly all of them. You can't lose players like Barrett Jones, Dont'a Hightower, Randall Cobb, Tee Higgins, Jalen Ramsey, Ke'Shawn Vaughn, Jacoby Stevens...you get the point. You need to recruit nationally...but it is important to get 3 or 4 of the top 5 in your state, as well. For example...the top 3 recruits in Tennessee in the 2018 class went to Georgia, Alabama, and Ohio State. In 2019, the top 4 went to LSU, South Carolina, Oregon and Georgia.

Or it could just be that both are in Tennessee.

struggled to recruit
Vandy is a tough school. Admissions waivers are there to assist with athlete entry, but they still have to pass classes. Plus, a history of struggling to make a bowl is a stigma they will always fight to consistently overcome.
UTk always depended on out of state recruiting to stay relevant nationally. Now, they can't even win their state, while Bama, Auburn, Georgia and a resurgent Clemson are killing them in their prime recruiting out-of-state backyard of North GA and NC.
Last, is singing about "knockin' boots," getting drunk, cheating, and fighting a better message if it comes from a country singer in your opinion? One is just typically more radio friendly. Both genres focus on sex, drugs, alcohol and bravado ... with a lil' bit of over the top patriotism dripped in for country.
