Gotta wait until next season.

Ranked opponents played since 2014:

62- Alabama
58- Georgia
56- Auburn
52- LSU
50- Florida
50- Arkansas
50- South Carolina
47- Tennessee
47- Miss State
43- Ole Miss
43- Kentucky
41- Vanderbilt
35- Missouri

My gawd. Drink is literally Mark Stoops. If he’s not a narcissist, he has to know he’s hit the scheduling lottery up to this point and been able to fool everyone. He would be smart to leave. That way, when the next guy comes in at Mizzou and inevitably loses more games due to the new schedule rotation, he’ll look like a coaching genius even if he’s failing at his next school.

Drink is 4-15 against ranked opponents at Mizzou, including 0-2 this season.

Sorry you don’t like facts. Also, yes Auburn sucks and your team had to go to overtime to beat us… RED FLAG ALERT.

Please lock Drink up with a $40 million buyout just like Kentucky did for Stoops. Please make that happen. Then in 4-5 seasons when you’re asking yourself, “Why’d we start falling off in 2026?,” we can all point and laugh at you.

Someone just needs to let drink in about how nobody cares about the past and misery is the future! Nil changed everything! But if he doesnt stay, does that make mehzou the new Nebraska minus all the accolades?

So I get Missouri’s schedule gets tough. But are expectations so high that he would get on the hot seat quickly?
Seems like he has a good thing going much like Lane in Oxford.

I just don’t see Penn State as a good move unless he just wants money.

The interest in our nerdy Harry Potteresque coach is humorous.

He’d be stupid not to take the Penn St job

Penn St and Missouri aren’t even close to comparable

So looking a bit close at Drink’s record… I will admit that it appears he turned a bit of a corner in Year 4.

2020: 5-5. 0-3 against ranked opponents.
2021: 6-7. 0-3 against ranked opponents.
2022: 6-7. 1-3 against ranked opponents.

Yuck. Not a great first three seasons… a combined 10 losses to unranked opponents.

It does seem that in Year 4, Drink turned the corner in the fact that he got his team to start beating the weak opponents. Since 2023, Missouri is a combined 24-1 against unranked opponents. A marked improvement.

Here’s the problem though… he’s still losing most of the big games. In fact he hasn’t beaten a ranked team since 2023… two seasons ago.

Here are the ranked opponents Mizzou has played since 2023:

2023 vs #18 Kansas St: won 30-27 at home.
2023 vs #12 LSU: lost 49-39 at home.
2023 vs #4 Georgia: lost 30-23 at home.
2023 vs #17 Tennessee: won 36-7 at home.
2023 vs #10 Ohio State: won 14-3 in a bowl game.

So in 2023, Mizzou was 3-2 vs ranked opponents. Not bad. But they were extremely fortunate to somehow not have to played a single ranked team in the road…. They also caught a demoralized Ohio State team that was mad about not making the playoff and had fans that didn’t travel and a bunch of starters who opted out… including the QB.

All things considered between the fortunate situation in the bowl game and catching all their tough regular season games at home, Mizzou caught basically every break possible in 2023. Drinkwitz is still living off that season.

Now for 2024 and 2025…

2024 vs #17 Alabama: 34-0 loss on the road.
2024 vs #19 South Carolina: 34-30 loss on the road.
2025 vs #4 Alabama: 27-24 loss at home.
2025 vs #16 Vanderbilt: 17-10 loss on the road.

So losers of 4 straight games vs ranked opponents dating back multiple seasons.

I mean, is it good that Mizzou is no longer losing to so many bad teams? Sure. But going multiple years between ranked wins is quite something for a vaunted coach.

Also, how in the world has Mizzou been so fortunate that they’ve only had to face 4 ranked opponents in their last 21 games? Like I said, it’s very Stoops-esq.

Drink has been given everything he has asked for. He has Mun Choi and Veatch squarely in his pocket. Choi sent the previous AD packing because she and Drink were at an impasse. Several 7 or 8 win seasons isnt going to put him on the hot seat. He is selling tickets at a rate that could result in another stadium expansion. He's finally got a difference maker at QB. Taking 6 years to get there is a head scratcher but this guy has serious arm talent. He has a put together a good staff that is recruiting at an unprecedented level.

He stays the course and starts beating ranked teams he will have a job for life.

James Franklin was the Eliah Drinkwitz of the BIG10.

Last 4 seasons prior to this year…

Penn State was 36-1 against unranked opponents.
Penn State was 5-13 against ranked opponents.

Not sure why Penn State would want to hire what they just fired.

Thank you for posting this. It's taken time for him to raise the floor to where we're playing ranked teams close.

He said going in this was his most talented team and it appears it is, especially along the defensive front seven.

Saturday we get to see if they can get over the hump and beat a Top 5 team with a poised freshman quarterback.

Now all that's left to do is won those accolades, which oddly enough puts them EXACTLY where they've been for like 100 years.

Auburn fired Freeze because he got lazy. Playing golf should have been off-limits during season. I never did like Freeze. Missouri is in the exact same situation with Ole Miss. Lane Kiffin is enjoying his time at Ole Miss. Does he want to be in a high pressure job at Florida or LSU? Will he do well and be willing to start over to get the players he needs to fit his system? Drinkwitz is in the same situation. Indiana is football program that fit with Missouri and Ole Miss.
Plus why take a chance to go elsewhere to rebuild the football program and culture. Indiana, Ole Miss, and Missouri all got it set up. May have sone down years but will not get fired like at Florida, Auburn, or LSU.
