You'd think the Father of the Sexual Revolution would hold a bit more sway for a person like yourself. But it's hard to change ideas. I get it.
Yeah, it's one guy who's been dead for over 50 years. Let's not pretend whether one chooses his or her sexaulity is a question solved by old science. Kinsey isn't Isaac Newton.
quote:
No, there's not. There's philosophical arguments against the anecdotal evidence (like you provide). But I don't feel it provides as sound an explanation.
Yes, there really is. There's a nation of gay people you can go right ahead and ask. That's a great pool from which to draw anecdotes.
quote:
This is an attempt to explain the evidence. It doesn't disprove anything. It's a "there's an invisible cat in the chair" argument. When someone says, "I don't see a cat," you simply respond with "that's exactly what we should expect." It's an unfalsifiable argument and I've never been a fan of those.
Yeah, or it's just a very reasonable inference drawn from the evidence, something you're very much allowed to do when examining it.
Given what we know about the prejudice and oppression many face because of their homosexuality, it's not at all unfair to arrive at the conclusion I suggest.
quote:
Sure. But if someone tells me they're a lesbian but they also have sex with men, it would seem that their sexuality is malleable at the very least.
Oh you. Stop "explaining" the evidence. If you're doing guys and girls you like both.
Of course I can imagine some extraordinary situations in which an individual's sexual orientation is too inchoate or ambiguous to identify until he or she is middle-aged. I suspect that's the exception and not the rule. Regardless, a sexual impulse or desire doesn't become volitional merely because it arrives or develops at a later time.
quote:
The percentage of people who only have sex with the same sex is extraordinarily low (1ish%).

Any team that won't draft him or pay him what he's worth is a shitty organization.

Well I was really calling out the hypocrisy of the so-called 'tolerance' movement.
They are the most intolerant of all. Because if you don't agree with their very narrow way of thinking, then you're a bigot, homaphobe, racist, or closet homo.

From what I've heard it was about to be blown open by a news organization that he was. I can understand why he decided to come out on his on terms. I just don't think it should be as big of a deal as most people are making it out to be.
Happy for the guy, but if people ever want true equality, they have to stop going nuts anytime someone famous comes out.
He's taking advantage. He'll make a fortune in endorsements in 3-5 years. Wait and see.

Well thats the point. This is news, because there is still a rather large group of people against homosexuality. Especially in professional football
Eh. I don't think most people really really care. I'm pretty conservative on my views of sexuality but I don't care about my football team's player's views on it. I don't care if my safety has 4 kids by 3 women so I don't care if my DE is gay. I think most people are the same, really.
This is more an issue about media views and how they drive stories and coverage, IMO.

I just hope the guy can get those teeth fixed once the paycheck arrives.

well yeah, but the only ones who can't see that are those organizations themselves

Ok. Perfect person to ask. Do you enjoy seeing people go nuts when someone comes out like this?
I've always thought if there is ever going to be true equality, that needs to stop.

I'd read more literature if I were you. Data driven stuff. Or you can keep on pretending you know what you're talking about. Either way.

Seriously, why is this news?
First openly gay player to be active in a Major US sport?
Honestly there is 0 chance this guy won't get drafted.
He is a top 3 rounds talent.

I would draft him if I was a coach. Think of the advantage..he is already a great player. Now the person having to block him will know he is gay and feel weird having to grab him and stuff all game. Gives an advantage to Sam.

We care about the issue. We don't really care about it in relation to the person or our team.
I'm not a "pro-homosexual" guy. But I'm not devastated that I rooted for Sam all year nor do I suddenly think he's a horrible person. But I find the issue and the surrounding opinions very interesting.

Undoubtedly the people who support homosexuality here are riding the current social/political climate and would be doing just the opposite 40 or 50 years ago because they have no core beliefs in which to base their view of right and wrong.
I was met at my car with a baseball bat because I supported gay folks and made it known back when the bumper stickers derided "Bill Clinton's army" as a "a fig in every foxhole" so YOU can go frick yourself. There was not a goddamn thing popular about it.

He'll have to be accepted. Announcing virtually assures that.
