This. And you have to take it figuratively..you must understand that the less advanced society that wrote the Bible had very little scientific knowledge...so the descriptions of things in the Bible are very general.

Probably could have done it in a less showy, in your face manner. And I personally don't think the guy did it purely to help save others. I think he wanted the image.
ETA: plus, didn't john the baptist get beheaded cause he pissed off some rulers wife? I feel like Stephen would be a better example

Yes, there really is.
Intolerance for intolerance has the effect of negating intolerance. The actor is open-minded to everything except closing his mind. There's nothing arbitrary about refusing bias or prejudice. The exact opposite is true.
If you can't see the difference between that and intolerance alone I don't know what to tell you.
