Did I type the Big 8 part too fast for you?
I corrected the fact that OU was also Big 8, but they have a long history with Texas and their program accomplishments make them a desirable opponent for a lot of programs.

The problem is that there are too few Big 8 teams in the conference for actual Mizzou rivals. Maybe they should have just put all the BXII rejects together where they belong.

It's a coping mechanism.
They're pre-melting about Mizzou so that when Mizzou kicks their arse, they'll scream. "Well duh. This was Missouri's Super Bowl. We didn't even want to play them."
