I'm just baffled, what's the logic in hiring a guy that runs a mid major into the ground in 3 years to rebuild a P5 program?

Yeah it’s hilarious right? Like how much you guys cried losing to JG twice in a row

I told you that you should have picked someone besides Tennessee

The logic is they went after James Franklin and he said no. He passed on Tony Elliott and Fleck I guess because he thought he could get Franklin. But by the time that was settled both guys decided they were staying.
Then Heupel was his next option. Why? That’s a good question. By either his choice or the chancellors/presidents choice they did not contact any Jimmy Sexton clients due to the fall out with Pruitt. So whomever made that decision fricked us. Yes, Jimmy Sexton probably would’ve fricked us on the contract - but who cares.

Is the Coastal Carolina guy a Sexton client? Why not someone like him

They also immediately eliminated anyone with “NCAA baggage”. There was some book store scandal under him where players bought electronics. Petty bullshite.
So regardless of agent they weren’t going to consider him, Freeze or Kiffin.

You mean the guy who is from Campbell County, Tennessee and grew up here and just won AP Coach of the Year? Jamey Chadwell? That would be too simple but in truth his offense is a bit scary because it's one you're going to get locked into. He wouldn't be easy to transition away from if you needed to and there were questions about whether or not he was ready for the jump but a lot of fans had him on the list. He would certainly be a 'fit' from a personality and culture standpoint.
I don't think White spoke to him. In fact, I think Heupel was his plan from day one.

In 2018, the NCAA released a detailed report concerning numerous NCAA violations that occurred during Chadwell's tenure as the CSU head football coach. The violations ranged from using multiple ineligible players to players using scholarship funds to purchase electronics and jewelry from the campus book store. Ultimately, the NCAA sanctions vacated 18 wins from the 2014 and 2015 seasons and the 2015 Big South Championship. Also vacated were three wins over crosstown rival The Citadel, games during which CSU used ineligible players.[1]
Pretty sure they were instructed by book store employees to use the funds or they’d lose them and they didn’t know any better. Or that was their story anyway.

Why not like Fleck, Nappier or numerous others? I’m not enamored with the choice but we’ll see. I would have gone a different direction...

Y'all are the only team in the conference that we have more than a one win streak against, and we're suffering through (hopefully have ended) the worst five year stretch in program history.
I wouldn't throw shade at anyone if I were a Vols fan. Much less Missouri who has been to the SECCG twice since you hired Dooley.

I mostly agree with the poster, the reality is that Drew's last year with Heupel (2017) projected him into a first round grade and Dooley kind of cooled that first round grade down to second.
Heupel may have hurt him in being a better 2nd-3rd-4th read qb but Lock benefitted from the simple first read play designs.

Oklahoma co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Josh Heupel has been fired and is no longer with the program, Bob Stoops confirmed Tuesday morning.
The news of Heupel's departure followed the firing of co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach Jay Norvell earlier this week and came just hours before Bob Stoops held a press conference to address the changes.
Heupel served as the Sooners’ co-offensive coordinator for the last four seasons after spending five seasons as the quarterbacks coach.
As quarterbacks coach, Heupel helped develop two of the most successful quarterbacks in Oklahoma history in Sam Bradford (2007-09) and Landry Jones (2009-12).
Jones, though, plateaued after his sophomore season—coinciding with Heupel’s move to offensive coordinator. Jones passing yardage went down in each of his final three seasons in Norman, though he none of those years did he throw for less than 4,267 yards. His interception numbers stayed up as well, going from 12 in 2010 to 15 in 2011 and 11 in 2012.
The Sooners averaged 36.4 points per game this season but on two of their biggest stages struggled offensively.

Our scoring avg vs P5 teams was 21.3 PPG
He would feast against bad teams and his offense would shite the bed against good ones
So he is Gus Malzahn 2.0?

With all due respect embarrassing is having a coach that looks like one of the Indigo Girls that Gus hired twice

This is more inline with one analysts view of Lock's progression under Heupel as opposed to the OP:
quote:
Heupel got a chance to coach one of the more talented SEC quarterbacks in recent years with Missouri’s Drew Lock for two seasons. In 2016, Lock completed 54.6 percent of his passes for 23 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. In the second season with Heupel, Lock’s number took a huge jump: he completed 3.2% more of his passes, throwing 21 more passing touchdowns, 44 total. Lock was picked in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos.

Considering the whole staff has been fired I'd say Heupel got out of situation with much bigger problems than just him

Get over it.
It's taken 20 years to beat the arrogance out them but it's finally happened.

I don’t know if he’ll be any good or not but I’d be embarrassed to have a fat lazy slob with three chins and a neck beard as my head football coach.
