I have a friend who is a coach at a small university here in TX and the landscape for both the high school seniors and juniors is wildly different than it was just 5 years ago. He has made mention that schools have taken the value of the HS recruit in favor of that Juco,Transfer, or even D2 over the high school athlete. Maturity both physically and mentally make them more attractive.
It's a hard life, a college coach not making that serious jack, and being dependent upon the whims of an 18 year old high school senior.
But to answer your question, 8 is a lot.

This aligns with my point. Those programs are better equipped than probably 95% of JUCO programs as well as having a more talented roster. You want your investment to have the best amenities as well as be able to develop alongside more talented teammates.

Y’all paid 20 million for your team and still lost 3 games. Stop relying on just the portal. Those guys are just looking for the highest bidder. They won’t put it all on the line like someone who really wants to be part of the team.

Don't know if anyone mentioned this yet, but Bill Snyder put Kansas State on the CFB map by fielding teams full of JUCO players back in the early 2k's right up until his retirement.
Hell, his name is on the stadium on the backs of JUCO players.
Does that mean Moo State suddenly becomes a contender? Probably not, but having older, experienced players could mean an extra win or two and not having to sweat bowl eligibility. Winning more games will also improve high school recruiting. Who knows, maybe it eventually leads to finding another Dak Prescott?There are worse strategies to team building.

JUCO players aren’t anywhere near what they once were in the portal era.
