Why don’t we have the right players? We have an elite Rb that is great at catching the ball, an elite QB that is used to throwing the ball a good bit and a pretty decent O-line. We added a few 4* WRs but that position can definitely use an upgrade. Just not seeing where the huge fall off is

We have the right skill position players I think. I’m worried that Leach’s system is going to require an elite o-line when going up against SEC defenses. I’m also worried about what happens if the system doesn’t pan out immediately - like with what happened with Mhead’s system. Hopefully Leach is more flexible.

What Winner posted. But I was done with Moorhead during the second half of last year's Tennessee game. A hapless team gave us opportunity, after opportunity, after opportunity to take control of the game, and we didn't do it..then showed a flash late in the 4th of what we could have done. I knew we were screwed with Moorhead at that point, no matter what.

You think Mike Leach cares about Dan Mullen?

I think the Kiffin hire at Ole Miss caught State off guard.

There is much to be said for this.

Moorhead was... underwhelming. He walked into possibly the most talented State team of all time. He was thunderously average with them. Which is why his comments about the '85 Bears would be so annoying to State fans.

He did get the '85 Bears by the standards of Mississippi State. That team absolutely should have contended (even as a fringe player) for the West and been in the running for a NY6 bowl game.

Instead they got a team that beat up on the turds in their schedule... and God knows we were one of them... and lost to the decent teams they played.

We shan't discuss last year's team.

He was already trending down when Ole Miss signed Kiffin. Now Kiffin may flame out at Ole Miss, but if you want to talk about someone who moves the needle in the state of Mississippi I dare say it wasn't Moorhead.

MSU already knew that, given the most talented State team of all time, he was good for 8 wins. Imagine competing with the SEC West when he didn't have that team?

After all that you then hire Mike Leach? Talk about not having the players for a system.

You guys may not win 5 games the next time football is played.

That said, I like leach, just think it will be tough sledding for several seasons.

Nah. State has better players at nearly every position than Leach has had at TT and WSU (going by recruiting rankings).

He will have a QB (KJ Costello) that as a recruit was rated higher than every player but one that Texas Tech and Washington State ever had (all positions, all years). Leach's QB last season (Anthony Gordon) passed for 5,579 yards, just 92 yards fewer than Joe Burrow in 2 fewer games. Gordon passed for 51 more yards per game than Burrow. Anthony Gordon was UNRANKED as a recruit.

In 2020 Leach will have a more talented RB than he likely had at either WSU or TT. He'll also have as many 4-star receivers than he had at Washington State.

In Leach's 8 years at Washington State, he had ONE 4-star on defense. State has 9 4-stars on defense just this year. He's likely to consistently have better defenses at State than anywhere he has been.

About the only players at State that might not fit his system are the offensive linemen, and Leach is still likely to have higher-rated players on the OL at State than he had at TT and WSU, including a 5-star left tackle.

Hows Moorheads right ball been tasting the past few months? I know JJDoc has been doing the left ball so I won't ask about that one.

SEC football is better when the Egg Bowl is between two under .500 teams like the good ol days.

I think the Kiffin hire at Ole Miss caught State off guard. It was an aggressive hire that gave Ole Miss a lot of excitement around their program and totally took away any momentum State had from winning the Egg Bowl. MSU had not been happy with Moorehead for most of the season and I think they were going to give him another season just to be gracious. Once Kiffin went to Oxford, State was just looking for a reason to get rid of him.

I was impress with the blowout wins against Arkansas the last two years. I realize it was Arkansas but no one was able to do the same thing during those two years. Missouri also have had a hard time attracting a good coach. Gary Pinkel was good but not good enough to go to the distance. The health issues and the problem going on at the school made it harder to attract anyone good. This seems like the same thing going on at State. Leach might ended to be a good hire or be a so and so head coach. Why no one wanted him that bad? Missouri hired someone just not quite ready and looked very good and have done very well at NCS as OC and then went to Appalachian State and did an great job. Normally AD would wait 2 years to see if ready but Missouri had no other choice to take him now before he gets too hot.

We will wait and see how both head coaches do in their first year.

Gordon also had 162 more pass attempts.

Joe Moorhead, nice guy, bad coach, terrible disciplinarian. He wanted to be players friend and buddy instead of coach.
