We should have a great season, but we also should have had a good season last year with the talent we had

Hansborough ran off and became a beast, have to give Stans credit,he is a master at running people off

One huge key will be whether or not the staff will be able to take advantage of our length if we get the european. If we could have Sidney, Moultrie, and the Euro in some sort of zone at the right times, it could be just filthy. The problem is, Stansbury does not know how to coach a zone defense, just like he doesn't know how to beat a zone on offense.

If Stans can land Devonta Pollard, it will be his best back to back recruiting classes ever at State.

I also think that the Mize Center (new basketball practice center adjacent to the Hump) will greatly benefit our team, as well as our trip to Europe so we can build team chemistry.

That was desperately needed

I loved going to the Hump for games when I was there, I went back for a game last year and it just wasn't the same atmosphere. Probably because we weren't very good.

If we get off to a good start to the season, and possibly win the Coaches vs Cancer classic in NYC excitement for the program will begin to build up going into SEC play, and the Hump will be rocking in SEC play, especially when Kentucky comes to town.

I think this years team is more talented than the 2004 team. The key will be can we get everyone on the same page, dedicated, and focused early on. Those are really bad traits to question of a team though.

Remember the 2005 team had basically the same players as the 2004 one, but it didnt produce near the results.

Well my sources are saying otherwise, and you are the first person who has said he isn't coming.

Stansbury did not help Riek in leaving the program to not make room to bring in another player. I have been hearing about the European player, Majeris for over a month.

If you have so much inside information please share what you know and why you believe he isn't coming.

Pretty much. You guys talk about last year's class being so talented, but good lord that team did some massive under performing. I remember going into the season thinking with your length and talent you guys were going to be one of the top contenders for the SEC and you were barely over .500 in conference.

Stansbury can recruit but you desperately need someone on staff that will light a fire under somebody's asses.

Has he been cleared by the NCAA yet? If not, I wouldn't hold my breath. Especially at the snails pace they make decisions on foreign kids and their tendency to absolutely shite on them when trying to get qualified for college ball.

Right. When I first started hearing about this kid a few months back he wasn't expected to play until 2012.

I don't know if something has changed, but I'm not holding my breath for this year.

Last year's recruiting class consisted of Bryan Bryant and Jalen Steele and I dont remember anybody raving about them.

People were excited about Sidney, but he missed 15 games with suspensions.

I misspoke and meant to say team, not class. Sorry.

My point still stands though. Until Stansbury can coach a team past the first weekend of the tournament, it's all a moot point.

And you can't tell me he hasn't had the talent to make it past the 2nd round since 98-99. I can think of at least two years you had very good shots at making it happen. '02 had a good shot at an Elite Eight that year the way the bracket set up, but choked to Texas. '03 you got upset by a Butler team that was decent but beatable. And we're not even going to get into the seasons you had enough talent to at least make the NCAA tournament but didn't.

I think we will be vastly improved just by subtracting Ravern Johnson

yeah, losing a guy that was one of the best shooters in school history leave will do wonders for us. We'll miss him and Kodi more than people think. shite, Kodi was one of the SEC leaders in double-doubles

Rayvern couldnt guard me, but he could also punish zones and score 20- Hood wont be able to do that as a true freshman

a 5-star freshmen being a big time scorer isn't a novel thing.

Just heard that Mareks Majeris the Latvian forward will be enrolled at Mississippi State when classes start August 18th. The NCAA is nearing finishing up his case and I'm hearing between as many as 5 game suspension to no suspension.

Stans can coach a zone defense. We've had many successful games where we successfully switched to a zone defense mid-game and turned the momentum into our favor.

Defensive play has not typically been a problem for a Stansbury team. Up until the past 2 or 3 seasons, State/Stans consistently had one of the best defensive and rebounding teams in the SEC. We led the conference in rebounding for something like 5 straight years, and 3-4 years ago broke the SEC record for FG% defense.

I agree, however, that Stans has a lot of difficulty against zone defenses.
