States interviewing triple option coaches. Honestly they could ruin some seasons running that shite. Would be boring as hell to watch but Tech stayed competitive just by throwing that wrinkle at teams.

Tech was competitive 1 out of every 3 years and now they’re in a huge hole that it will take years to fill with regards to roster management and recruiting. It made sense for them at the time because of budgetary reasons and academics but given what State has been able to do the past decade I think it’d be a step back. They’ll never win the SEC with that offense and longterm their program will suffer from the dip in athletes

We have different definitions of "stayed competitive". And it was in a conference with shite defenses. And they still weren't competitive most years. And that was with a Triple Option coach that won championships with it as lower levels, a real TO guru.

If you cant beat them, join them.

I think miss state was 0-3 versus the GT triple option.

The last loss was in Dan Mullen's "best coach of all time for getting Miss St #1 in the rankings" 2014 season.

Here's the deal...

If you could get a Cam or Dak or Justin Fields that could complete a forward pass on 3rd and long, but also be an elite running back, then the Triple Option could be a competitive offense in the SEC. Problem is none of those top shelf guys are going to come to a program that runs that shite.

Also, the triple option is a slow scoring march down the field, even when successful, which means you don't get alot of opportunities on offense, which means you need a damn stout defense to keep yourself from getting blown out early. Can a triple option coach at MsSt put together a top shelf defense too?

That scheme does some damage. Navy beat Notre dame with it a couple of times, Army almost took down michigan twice. The talent gap between those teams is astronomical, yet they competed based on scheme alone. Its just difficult to prepare for.

Not for SEC defenses stacked for 4 and 5 star athletes. Isn't the SEC West the best div in FB, especially defensively?

Especially once the other teams begin implementing triple option defensive days during Spring, Summer, Fall Camp, and during bye weeks during the season, because they have a T/O team on the schedule every year. Exactly how Georgia handled GT every year, exactly how most of the ACC teams handled GT every year. Same will happen to Miss St, but even quicker, because the defenses in the SECW are better.

Wait, you're a reb... of course you want this for state.

that offense attracts rb's ,that's about it. dang tough to prepare for in 1 week but if you face it yearly, the defenses are just too fast now.

Higher level SEC teams with solid coaching and decent defensive talent will shut it down. Middling teams and coaches are likely to have problems. Lyle got his defense ran through like shite thru a tin horn (400+ yards) by GT in 2017. Kentucky also ran wild on some bottom tier SEC teams (and Louisville) with Bowden at QB.

I just love it when Ole Miss fans are so involved in everything MSU is doing..You just need to worry about the fact that you will never compete with Alabama again unless you figure out how to cheat and not get caught.

If true MSU is going to take a hit in recruiting and youll never have a decent defense. Elite defensive players do not want to practice against that offense all camp and practice.

Urban Myer said he HATED playing against the offense and would do everything he could to make sure his school didn't play teams that ran the offense.

Grantham had a helluva time with it when he was our DC

In fairness if State goes to a triple option scheme Ole Miss fans are heavily directly impacted.

We're going to finally be able to answer the theoretical question of what happens if all the MS talent were to go to a unified MS SEC school.

Yeah, nobody worth a damn will go to a college not prepping them for the next level. the TO does not do that for the skill positions and that is the issue.

They won't get a another Dak. I would imagine that Shrader would bolt and the new kid that is a Pro style QB.

They have not recruited well at WR for years until Moorhead. Those 4 star WRs will bolt that they just signed.

And as you mentioned in another thread, by the time Ms St figures out this doesn't work, the rebuilt will set them back 4 years.

It appears the AD was not wanting to make a move and coward to idiots.

Make the move next year, and you are golden with an incoming class and available coaches or see the result of Moorhead building the passing game. He even had Hill coming back!

Dumb arse move by State

Grantham actually never lost to it at UGA. Only DC that could say that. Like all of our DCs, he had the wrong scheme the first season. I think we gave up almost 500 yards and 40 points.
But Grantham was actually pretty dominant against it when he converted to an Oklahoma defense and used smaller more athletic linemen.

We ran something like it this year when our 3 QB’s went down. I actually thought it was fun to watch because I knew a big run was coming but it’s not something that I would want to have as a permanent scheme. Helps when you have someone like Lynn Bowden to run it.
