Wouldn’t have any issues adapting to NIL or coaching professional egos (his day job for the last 11 years). 2x NCAA champ with 30+ years as a college or NBA head coach with at least 10+ years in him. No one in contention will have a better resume than that. UNC is one of the very few college jobs he’d even have any business considering and doesn’t come open often. If they’re both interested it’s a no brainer. They’d be elite immediately and Duke-UNC would be must watch again

The candidate shortlists going around are almost all coaches at power (or loaded) programs. Very little doubt the SEC and B1G schools in 2026 would find the money to match whatever is thrown at Golden, Oats, or May unless UNC is so desperate they want to completely reset the market. Poaching is so much harder in basketball
