Correct. Finished law school and immediately went to get a degree in sports coaching in Daphne, AL. I'm paraphrasing, but said something to the effect to his wife that he could either become either, "A very rich lawyer and miserable or a happy coach with not nearly as much money."
I murdered that, but that's the jest of it.
Funny how giving up chasing the all mighty dollar still rewarded him with millions.
I remember back around 2001 or 2002 noticing that Texas Tech was just putting up a million points every game and every now beating someone Texas Tech absolutely shouldn't.
I'll never forget having a watch party for that 2008 TTU/Texas game at the house I had at the time in South Austin. When Crabtree came down with the ball, I thought the Longhorn in attendance might need to be put on 72-hour watch. And the Aggies I knew back when he was at TTU... my god, they hated him. Then again, I guess he kinda had their number up to the end.
On the one hand, I'm not sure he would have ever even made it to Atlanta from State. On the other, if after he was fired at TTU someone had told me, "He's going to comeback someday and win the whole damn thing at Mississippi State," I wouldn't have even blinked. Like his stories used to be, how you got there could be convoluted, but Mike Leach alway made the absurd a reasonable proposition.

Very sorry to hear that Coach Leach has passed. He was a character and will be missed by many.
My condolences and prayers to his soul, his family, the MSU family, and the SEC…he was much too young.

Really nothing I can say that hasn’t already been said. Just feel the need to say something. RIP Coach Leach. Selfishly, I am so glad he came to the SEC, so we could get more coverage of him. This one hits so differently. Never met the man but feel like I lost a family member.

His tangents that gave the most completely non-football answers to any question will never be matched.

I wonder what that shite arse Craig James and his dripping pussy son thinks about all this.

Sucks badly.
I hope the interim coach talks about aliens and bigfoot at his first press conference in honor of Leach.
