I could get used to this.

I am ignorant to college tennis pretty much. It isn't really possible for a ten seed to win is it?

Truthfully, I'm not that familiar either. I know historically Georgia has a really good team and that the PAC-12 is usually pretty good. Stanford has the most titles at the NCAA tourney but lost to A&M in the preliminary rounds this year in this tournament.

I think Southern Cal has won the last 4 or 5 National Championships in tennis.

Indeed. And I was wrong about Stanford having the most. USC passed them up on their recent run

Southern Cal - 20 (last 2012)
Stanford - 17 (last 2000)
UCLA - 16 (last 2005)
Georgia - 6 (last 2008)

Pepperdine, Baylor and Illinois have 1 title each in the last 15 years.

But it's been all USC and UGA recently.

Bump for Saturday. Tough break with only 2 SEC teams advancing. Still conference play should be interesting with almost half of the best teams at this point of the season in the SEC.

Kentucky is legit this year. They have already beat #6 Oklahoma this year in a grind...it came down to the last match (3 setter).

Hope the Cats get USC, they knocked us out of the Final 8 match last season in the NCAA Championships.

One of my favorite memories from college was the 2007 NCAA National Championships for tennis held at the dan mcgill tennis complex in Athens. I volunteered to work the first few days which was kinda cool, but then got free admittence the last day. I got my buddy a pass too, so we would go watch some national title tennis, then every 20 minutes or so go back out to my truck and pull on a handle of Evan Williams. It was nasty, just sitting out there in my truck and no mixers, but we got used to it. Eventually one of the other volunteers that was working asked me "are you drunk?" man that's always a scary question. We just went in a different gate after that. We were just trashed talking some tennis with the head coach of like east carolina or something up in the stands.

UGA ended up winning the national title, it was cool to see in person. We played virginia in the finals, and the final round for singles was also between UGA and UVA, us with John Isner and them with Somdev Devverman or something (I remember because it's a unique name). The UVA guy won I think which kinda sucked. I did get Isner's autograph on a tennis ball afterward though.

Fun times.

WG, I have been to that indoor and outdoor facility many times...nice set-up for the tennis team. We won the SEC regular season and SEC Tourney when I worked for coach Emory in 1992.

The community comes out in droves to support the championship. Good times and it was great a sorority picked us us and feed us a dinner.

Yes, the DMTC is a top notch tennis facility. IIRC I believe that it is also home to the college tennis hall of fame.

UGA tennis is like gymnastics, it's definitely not a high profile sport, but it has a VERY loyal following, and Athens loves the dawgs so if the team is doing well that will bring out the casual fans too. I had a great time volunteering for it.

UGA and Ole Miss win their respective doubles points.

Do y'all know why they play an indoor championship? Is it mostly due to the weather this time of year? How is the indoor game different to the outdoor game?

The indoor is just for this tourney. Majority matches played outside unless weather dictates going inside.

The ITA Indoor is a big tourney next to the NCAA Championships. Seems the SEC Tourney is becoming just as big with ranked teams.

He's not a freshman, but yeah he's a grinder. He floats between playing 4-6 depending on what Cedric wants to do with the matchup

He had two players go pro last year. Tough to recover from that immediately. He's taken us to the NCAA finals twice. Methinks he's okay.

Cedrick is a hell of coach and great guy. He will carry what Emory establish and do better. You go to any of the matches at Boone Center?
