So what’s your point? Most basketball players could play football. But many football players could not play basketball, especially the lineman.

I think you missed the point. The best basketball players are playing less and less men's college basketball, which has had a negative impact on the talent level in the college game.

Still fun to watch for the casual fan, but the level of play can be pretty brutal.

I agree with that. I'm an Arkansas fan. We peaked when the sport was peaking in the early to mid 90s, so I agree wholeheartedly!

In the late 90s it started to decline with players like Kobe and Kevin Garnett never playing college ball.

It won't ever be the same as it was from the mid80s to mid90s.

His point is this:

If you turn on a SEC Football game between Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Florida, etc vs another team you are watching numerous future NFL players, and several future NFL all pro stars play.

When you turn on a college basketball game between an elite team (Duke, Kansas, Carolina, Kentucky, Gonzaga, Michigan State, etc). Vs another team, You’ll be lucky if there is even one or two future NBA players, much less a future star on the court.

Baseball - gotten stronger with more players bypassing the draft (see Dylan Crews).

- 0 of the top 5, 5 of the top 10, 10 of the top 20 and 21 of the top 38 players drafted in 2022 came from D1 baseball

- 5 of the top 5, 8 of the top 10, 16 of the top 20 and 24 of the top 38 players drafted in 1992 came from D1 baseball

2021 - 2 of the top 5, 5 of the top 10, 10 of the top 20
2020 - 5 of the top 5, 8 of the top 10 (COVID), 13 of the top 20
2019 - 3 of the top 5, 7 of the top 10, 12 of the top 20
2018 - 5 of the top 5, 7 of the top 10, 10 of the top 20

Throw in the fact that baseball has more foreign born, non-college players in the professional system than ever and D1 baseball players make up by far the smallest % of top professional league players than any other professional sport.........as much or more in 2023 than in 1993.

The % of active players on a roster that played in college at D1 school would pretty clearly go:

1. NFL (95%)
2. NBA (75-80%)
3. MLB (50%?)

There was more talent when HS seniors could go straight to the NBA?

The era before that. Everyone had to play three seasons of college ball, and many played four.

I guess you are right. I missed the point. But I for one don’t enjoy a bunch of blue bloods playing for money and fame instead of loyalty and love of the game. This is why college sports is more agreeable to me ,and many others, than the pros. So let the super stars leave after a year. Or better yet, let them go straight from high school into the pros.

Baseball is a diluted version of its former self. There are major leaguers now that would not sniff a roster pre expansion.

Ignore the retards Mulkey. Anyone that thinks modern day teams could take teams like 84 UNC just don't follow the sport.

They only had to be 2 years removed from high school until 1975. From 1975 until 2005, players could enter the draft right out of high school. Only one high school player was drafted in 1975 and not again until Garnett was drafted in 1995, but there was no rule against it either.

That’s why Ronald Acuña played college ball? Oh yea….he didn’t. You had guys like Big Mac, Barry Bonds, etc play college baseball back in the day….no more

You can look at full games they played on YouTube right now. If you don't know what the game looked like back then, it's willful ignorance.

Even moreso to the point, if you don't know what the game looked like back then, you shouldn't be involved in this discussion in the first place.

Jake Cronenworth

Just to name a few (there’s more) that have been at minimum all-stars the last few years who played college ball

So you picked one international player to show me the college game isn’t better now? How compelling

You haven’t been paying attention (clearly) if you don’t think the college game has gotten better. I’ve been following the sport 30 years. It’s not debatable

Yep. Now count the number of college seasons played by the best players in the NBA.

Giannis - 0
Luka- 0
Tatum - 1
Jokic - 0
Embiid - 1
LeBron - 0
Durant - 1

And so on.

Morant and Lillard, two late bloomers who played small school college ball, are the exceptions. Morant played 2 seasons.
