I don't get it? Is Memorial Stadium supposed to be that quiet? Is there a Missouri tradition that they are super quiet? It sounded like a baseball game last night. I literally heard ppl yelling taunts...coaches yelling "ball on a fumble etc
It kinda bothered me--/ like what advantage is having such a quiet homefield?

I noticed the same thing. Granted the team didn't give them much to be excited about, but the stadium was unusually quiet.

Lol like Northwestern, they say it's quiet and they play lots of 11am games and it really lulls the opponent to sleep walk through the game.

We scored 3 points and couldn't move the ball at all. It's normally a lot louder, but even then it's not like many stadiums in the SEC.
For one, there is 20k less people than the Swamp and one side is completely open while the other is half open. Doesn't hold crowd noise in very well. The new South EZ complex should help.

I was at the FSU/ND game last year so I don't know but I highly doubt you could hear single voice taunts like at baseball games

This sounds like a reasonable explanation-- (the construction part) I'll buy it

They still have that Big 12 mentality. I went to a game at OU and with the seats I had the people behind me didn't want anyone standing up, and kept asking other people to keep it down. It's a Midwest thing.

Love these threads. Does not account for anything. More overrated than the office sippie cup hydration craze. BDS is never mentioned in loudest venues. Want to know our record? Home and loudest away sites? Mizz has two recent years of success to silence this silly argument.

Wait? Wuuuut? I said nothing about your success- stop being sensitive. I just asked why it was so quiet - it's a legit question? Right?

It's only the 10th largest stadium in the SEC. That has a lot to do with it. I've been to games there where it was pretty loud, but again even at its loudest it's not like most other SEC stadiums. Several reasons for this, but it is what it is.

Well about a third are passed out by gametime.
Our ability to hold our booze is not yet SEC ready.

I've been to a game at LSU and people dont stand all game there either. Students are really the only people that get up for most of the game at pretty much every school. Once you get to people who have already paid their dues and are paying out the arse to have the seats they tend to actually use them for what they were made for.

Don't worry, LSU will pick up their slack Saturday night.

They probably didn't have much to cheer about.
But in their defense, the shape of the open stadium/layout probably doesn't allow for a lot of the noise to stay in like it does in a stadium with a more "closed" setup.

It takes a few year of the Verne drinking game to really get up to SEC level alcohol poisoning.

Yes, that's part of the issue. The new South EZ project is supposed to fully enclose that section of the stadium and create a true horseshoe design. Another issue is how far away from the field fans are. I've never been to a stadium where the stands are as far off the field as Faurot.
