What night game are you referring to?

I think big stadiums are huge competitive advantages for the home team. LSU and Bama don't lose too often at home in those coliseums.
They don't lose because they have better teams than the opponents.

Kyle Field and Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium were roughly the same size before our expansion. They just announced a huge expansion as well. We jumped our capacity up over 100k and they are keeping their capacity roughly the same, focus on luxury seating. The primary difference being our student section is about 20k larger than theirs, so a non-student ticket total about the same. Yet, I think nosebleeds are a mistake and won't be desirable in the future, so I give their renovation a nod is a certain way. I think a student section like ours, where students are going to be standing and yelling, and engulfing an entire sideline expanding all the way to the top of the stadium, is best. This is not for everyone, as most fanbases and student bodies don't have the passion that Aggies have, and couldn't make it happen. In short the 12th Man is perfect, and I don't think any other fan base can compare, so I wouldn't hold those to our standards, or design any other stadium with the highest passion in mind. I think Kyle Field's renovation is perfect, except making the top of each endzone in to standing room/party deck type areas. Capacity would be around 80k that way.

If the bubbles burst and prices come back down the rise in population - say doubles in 20 years - should keep these venues full. Big crowds indicates big demand which drives scarcity.

The demand is dying. As soon as people realize how irrelevant it is to say "i was there" instead of "i remember" expect crowds to shrink. Blame the millennials and the internet. There was a "where were you generation", now we have a "i was there" generation. Next we will have an "i remember" with an extraordinarily short attention span. Big stadiums will probably serve well in the immediate future, but i don't see them as a long term solution. Assuming of course, CFB even exists in 10 years.

It speaks to the power of college football when stadiums are being built to such insane capacities when NFL attendance has dropped a bit due to the convenience of television.

If you disagree feel free to correct me. I may clarify in that I didn't necessarily mean only night games. I should have said all games. If you disagree, use the google function.

Which SEC school will be the first to build a stadium that surpasses the 150,000 person capacity in the Rungrado 1st of May Stadium in Pyongyang?

I mean what do you get by going to the game? Crap weather, no alcohol, crap food, awful traffic, no decent replays....

All for what?

The future is virtual attendance. Stadiums that project fans in seats and have individual speakers that allow fans to still be part of the stadium experience from the comfort of your living room. But fan noise will be a thing of the past when noise canceling tech is included in helmets.
At home attendance! The future is now.

I hope this never comes true.

I don't think it will. I think the main reason you'll see people back off is because people spend a huge amount of money to go to these games. Like an obscene amount of money. And they don't have to. I hear of multiple people saying they spend 2000 a game.

One really cool thing I heard about was hologram games. Play the game live in the stadium that day, sure. But holograms will play out other games before and after the real game.

Just basic stuff. I had a box full of stubs for games I went to. It was like a keepsake box of cherished memories. The stub tied you back to the memory. Now kids don't care to have a stub.

I care more about the stadium now being enclosed than how many people we have. We had 82k before the renovation but it always looked small to me compared to similar sized stadiums that were enclosed.

i love the big time atmospheres, but i hate how far away from the field stadiums like Bama, State, and Georgia are. State isn't even big. The sight lines piss me off because it's just poor planning from former administrations.

In 20 years these places will be empty. More capacity is not necessarily better in the current and future climate, IMO, better amenities and higher prices seats will dominate.

College football as we know it may not exist in 20 years. They're a bad idea.

You'll have near capacity for a couple of games a year, but just more empty seats for most.

I'm not flaming when I ask this, but wasn't this past season one of the worst ones in attendance in recent memory. I've never seen so many empty seats in DV for a night game before.

It was atrocious. The economy just started picking up since last season even more. The big thing at LSU has been traffic and parking restrictions. They made going to and getting to the games such a hassle, that people stopped going. There were also lots of poor weather games as well.

Florida was the worst, but it was also the hottest game and traffic was so bad that tens of thousands of people were stuck on the Basin Bridge for hours and missed the whole game while en-route. Thousands were discouraged and turned around to head home. It was an absolute shite show.

A&M was super rainy all day, but for those that were there, the atmosphere was electric. The crowd really willed that team to victory.
