On the bright side, nobody can ever accuse Saban of being racist when it comes to quarterbacks. #Aheadofhistime

Mauck doesn't come anywhere near a national title without Saban and that defense

Tbf with this logic Saban doesn’t win the 2001 SECCG without Mauck

Also, if you interview enough players you’ll find one that will say any coach was a dick

I will bet my life savings that Saban’s percentage of past players who think he’s a dick would lap any other coaches

You can be a great coach and be a horrible person. Saban.

You can be a great person and a horrible coach. Miles.

You can also be both. Dabo and O.

That’s really the long and short of it. Alludes to what Pimp said earlier.

Mauck sounds like he got his feelings hurt. Toughen up.

Yeah, no big surprises here. Maybe he's not the greatest "friend" in the world, but whatever he's doing works. He gets results, and that's what matters. Results keep him employed (with huge raises), not having friends.

Belichick? Bobby Knight? Woody Hayes? Billy Martin? Isiah Thomas?

I don't know, man.

More so than Chuck Knoll? Bobby Knight? Woody Hayes? Even Paul Bryant had his moments.

Water is wet

Saban is an elite coach

Saban is also kind of a prick

Bama fans have no issue accepting the first two points, but get really testy when you bring up the third.

Took the words out of my mouth. It's almost a given that a great coach is borderline sociopath. Those guys are wired differently. Andy Reid is a huge teddy bear that neglected his family for the sake of the game.

Don’t remember Andy Reid walking over one of his OL after practice when he was hurt.

As in, stepping directly over him while he was on the ground.

At the time, LSU needed someone like that to whip the program into shape and get out of the mindset that mediocrity is ok. Many of those guys like Trev Faulk appreciated Saban's approach much later in retrospect

I'm not sure I'm understanding the first part.

Saban Called Mauck to talk to a kid about going to Alabama?? Like Mauck as an LSU alum would help him with that.

Other than that though Mauck sounds butthurt but whatever.

Matt Mauck should know not to say anything unflattering about Nick the Dick. He'll be getting death threats from gumps any day now.

If anything it sounds like Saban is the much bigger man here.

Nothing about the interview says that. It doesn’t make him a “bigger man” to be an a-hole on and off the field. It just makes him an a-hole. It exemplifies what we already thought about Saban, he’s a narcissist in every sense of the word. It’s what makes him a great coach but doesn’t make him a great person to be around.

Saban hired John Thompson as his defensive coordinator in 2000 and they were on a recruiting tour early in north Louisiana.

Guess who knew north Louisiana? Thompson. Not Saban.

And yet Thompson had to endure a lunatic narcissist screaming in his ear in the front seat of the car they drove from visit to visit.

Thompson said frick it and called Arkansas and got co-DC instead. Away from Saban.

He "lasted" with Saban for less than two months I think. And he was happy about it.

to each his own w/Saban

maybe Muschamp and Kirby gave Nick road head?

Saban is a great football coach. Great. Can be a tyrant. Glad he has mellowed out some
