I love how everyone hypes him up because of what he "could" do....lets let him do it before we crown him the greatest of all time.

.. He's a great player that is way ahead of others his age, but no way in hell is he dominant enough to be called greatest at any level. He's very sporadic in his greatness. Let's see some consistency before we make him a legend.

Honestly the way I interpreted it was he wasn't saying that he's the best football player on the planet, just that he's the best at his particular level compared to others at their level. Like AP or Rodgers are the best in the NFL, Clowney is better relative to the rest of the guys in CFB.

I seriously interpreted it as him intentionally pumping Clowney up and stroking his ego. I think anybody who thinks he was actually being serious is thinking about it too hard and merely looking for something to complain about. Richt's not an idiot. You can't be a total dufus and sustain the type success he has in the SEC over the length of time he's done it.

But for some reason this is his perception to a lot of folks on here. It's so far from the truth.

That's exactly what he is doing. Plus, he is careful with his words, he said Clowney "might be" the greatest, not was.

This is akin to the Alabama vs. Cleveland etc arguments.

Dominant? He had 4.5 sacks against Clemson; that's dominant. He gave Georgia no chance; that's dominant. What did Clowney and the D-line do versus LSU and Tennessee? Why did Michigan have success against them?

Actually agree he's not that far off--might be over-doing it a bit, but who in the SEC is better, Johnny Football? I believe we're going to see a drop-off in his play this season.

I'd seriously like an answer to my questions. I'm not letting this one go today.

Richts done this before. I removed his praise for tebow the year we sacked him 6 times. He said several times the week before there was no way he could be contained and how he was the best player he has seen

Boyd is ultimately to blame for this. If he had strapped his helmet on properly, this Clowney circle-jerking and ground worshiping would have never reached critical mass.

Shoot. I don't know. Did you see what Clowney did to us last year?

He caused the game saving sack fumble recovery against Tenn on a bad foot.

He had the game changing TFL fumble recovery against Mich.

He didn't do much of anything against LSU.

He destroyed the other Tackles he faced this year and he got the kind of stats he did to be in the top tier for the nation even after teams schemed for him and double teamed him all season.

He's still the most dominant DE in College Football.

TITCR. You can only be so dominant in football as an individual anyway, but especially at DE. He does all he can. LSU was the only team that really bitch slapped him last year.

Mark Richt on Clowney

Mark Richt also thought Cam Newton would be a good TE.
