Au hasn't won a national championship in over 50 years, but now au is going to be the new team that is in the mix every year?

He actually said he would like to be a HC someday when the time was right (and I assume program) a couple of weeks ago to the AU beat reporters after practice. He didn't elaborate though and ended the discussion with he was totally focused on AU and doing his job here right now.

My guess is if he gets an offer he likes, he goes this year. Next year our O will drop off a lot and with us being in the NC, it is hard to see what he gains by waiting. Of course I hope he does give us another year as I think we bump his salary an outrageous amount this year if he stays. He will probably get a big enough raise to make him the #1 OC in the country in terms of salary if he stays.

Think it all just comes down to what opportunities are out there this year.

Texas has plenty of money left over this year since they don't have the expense of a bowl game.

Doesn't matter. AU fans will make sure Jacobs does not lose Gus in a lateral move to ANYONE due to money.

serious question....if ya'll are willing to spring that much money for a coordinator, wouldn't it make more sense to get rid of cheezik and promote gus?

Would Auburn pay Malzahn more than Chizik to keep him? Because Texas could probably pay Malzahn more than Auburn pays Chizik.

No.

Chizik has done an AWESOME job as HC. He understands AU and what it takes to win at AU.

You forget that texas has had top recuiting classes for the last umpteen years...meaning=talent...something awebarn can't do on a consitant basis...i am sure his bags already packed anyways ..besides Texas is a major school ..way more major than the barn

AU COULD pay gus $2 million a year if we wanted. Fact is that is not reality though.

Money is not an issue here. It is about when Gus leaves, it will be for a HC job.

This Gus to Texas is a nonissue. I aam just pointing out it is not a bidding thing and Gus does not need to make a lateral move at all.

If Gus doesn't like his HC offers that will come, it would be good sense to move to Texas. Texas plays dog shite teams and Auburn will lose so many players.

This is the reality of Auburn fans..even before they set foot in Glendale, they can see the whole program falling apart.

This is only the start of the nightmare!

Hasn't Texas nabbed two coaches of yours in the last 6 years...and isn't Mack Brown the highest paid coach in cfl...isn't also Muschamp the highest paid defensive cordinator? Not too sure but isn't Malhzan from Arkansas?Isn't that close to texas?

Yeah, I don't think AU will benifit enough financially from winning the SEC or going to the NCG, to cover a high priced OC.

ETA: Funny, we apparently have a huge illegal slush fund to pay players, but can't afford to give Malzahn a raise.

Texas has nothing to offer him. He will be a BCS school head coach soon, probably after this season.

Why would he go to Texas for one year? Why would UT want him to come in and install that offense and then just leave?

i'll make this very simple. gus may very well be a head coach at the end of this year if not next for certain.

texas has nothing to offer to advance him and he's very happy at auburn. gus is also very well paid as it is.

also knowing is texas is going after helps me know gus isn't going there as he wasn't on their radar as they want an oc for more than a year.
