I get it. Nice to admire a walkoff, but after a second or two, you actually have to start moving down the line. The ump backed off once he finally made his way to first base. So at least the ump didn’t escalate anything.

You actually don’t. The game was over. The other team can leave the field…literally no one was waiting on him, except the umpire, it was a douchebag move by the umpire.

You say the game was over. Which is false.
The batter has to complete the play to not be called out. He cannot walk straight to the dugout, for example. But you already know that…

He needed the extra time to watch that shot attain orbit.

lol…He could have taken one step every 30 seconds and as long as he didn’t leave the base path, he would not have been called out. And since you are discussing technicalities, he absolutely could have walked to the dugout after he touched first base…he just would have been credited with a walk off single instead of HR. Have to know the rules

Yes, correct. I’m not even begrudging the kid. Just saying he has to get down the line to not be called out.

That would take honor and principles. We used to have that, but society is different today. It's a 'hey, look-at-me' world today and this is an example of what to expect.
Agree. I am just saying that is the way I would coach if I were a coach.
I would also probably get fired mid-way through my first season.

I get that but this game was different imo, it ended at 2am and we were trailing all game until the 9th. Both teams were probably glad it didn’t drag into extra innings because there is still more baseball to be played today.
I think a lot of players would have acted the same way ending THAT particular game like that.
I wasn’t there but it sounded about the loudest it’s ever been on the broadcast. And the stadium wasn’t full.
We may have blown our wad last night, who knows. But a lot of fans thought we might get swept coming into this series.
I'm not hating on Jones. It seemed like a genuinely natural celebration rather than something forced or rehearsed. It was an amazing comeback, and that place was loud as hell at 1am, I don't care how many people were there. That was a game for the ages for LSU fans who were there.

…add to that Jones had been struggling at the plate so coming thru at that time, with that blast hopefully provides a huge boost to the team in addition to the clutch win.

Yeah that is an emotion reaction then. I didn't know he has been struggling, but I did see his previous at bat with runners on and he struck out on a tough pitch just below the knees.

Good luck to Tennessee if they think they would get out of the parking lot unscathed

You’re welcome we gave u gumptards joy of watching Tennessee lose but let’s not forget they own u not just in football but every sport. U can’t beat them in baseball, your overrated now declining bsketball program can’t beat them, and in football 2 out of the last 3.

Even as a Vols fan, I can’t be mad at him. Don’t want him pimping a homer? Don’t give one up.
And let’s be honest. There is a whole roster of UT players that would do the same thing. You hit a bomb like that to win a game…you deserve to pimp walk it.
Could not agree more. You hit a bomb like that in that situation, do your thing. Do some shite like that in the 3rd inning and you may not walk out the batter's box at the next AB.
1000000% correct. It was a walk off HR he can do whatever. A 3rd inning HR and you are getting beaned the next AB

LSU fans folks.
Yes, a team that is 3-3 in our last 6 baseball games and 2-17 in football “owns us.”
I know UT winning 2 close home football games (one of which having one of the worst intentionally bad calls from 35 yards behind the play) is an accomplishment for LSU fans since you can’t beat Bama in Bryant Denny West, but most fans would require a team to win consecutive games sometime in a 2 decade span to say “they own” the other team. Last time UT won consecutive games against Bama was 2003-2004…smh

quote:Umps don't appreciate showboating. It can cause fights, or better yet, a 95 mph "smoker" deep into the left ear of that batter on the 1st pitch of his next plate appearance (that'd be my inclination).
Ump was trying to prevent him from slow walking his trot.
Breaking up all this "school kid", "watch me", showoff behavior taking place around the game now would stop, if the umps would let the managers and their pitchers take care of it.
