LSU's decline after the 1 year wonder....

So clearly LSU had a phenomenal year last year. A year so good that it really is an aberration. Joey B was a great QB and LSU lost a ton of talent but LSU has always recruited well and is full of elite talent.
This has me asking the question. Is the decline this year "mostly" due to the players that left or the coaches that left?
I think that at this point it seems the loss of coaches was a WAY bigger deal than the loss of players. Myles is a damn good QB but this team is nowhere near its talent level.

Your previous title teams in no way compare to last year's team. 15-0 and doing it when the SEC was heads and shoulders above the rest of the country isn't likely to be replicated again anytime soon.
Now compare that to 2007 when a 2 loss LSU team backed its way in. They aren't comparable.

LSU has certainly started out wobbly, but I don't think they are going to collapse.

Why do you seem to happy about the decline? Why dont you want LSU to turn the boat around, so mizzou can have a T25 win?

The 2018 class which we're depending on for starters was ranked 15th and thats with players like Chase included.
Besides that, we have a bunch of talented (on paper) and inexperienced true freshmen and sophomores and some transfers sprinkled in.
Our offensive line isn't very good (only returned one starter who is average).
Defense has like two returning starters and a coordinator who still thinks its 2006.
Get a better DC and some experience under their belts and LSU will be good again

Give me a minute to think about it

LSU fans would rather have 15-0 to cherish instead of Mizzou‘s one win over them in a down year

Brennan isn't Burrow, but he should be 3-0. No offense to Mizzou or Miss State, but 34 and 41 pts should be enough. LSU has 2 decades worth of wins depending on a defense to hold others down. 24 pts was usually a good sign, LSU probably won if they got to that total. If they got over 30, it should be a comfortable win. 41 should be a blowout.
You're always going to have a dropoff when you change schemes, and when you have to replace a lot of starters and experienced players. LSU is doing both right now. New guys getting used to being on the field, and still learning what everyone is supposed to do.
It would be tough after a normal offseason. This year they lost most of that, and it shows. Whatever excuse you might come up with, the bottom line is this- the defense is clueless out there.

It's difficult to say what constitutes "collapse" this season. I'm not one of the ones saying that this season doesn't count, I'm just saying it's difficult to assess Win/Loss historically when there's only a 10 game all SEC schedule.
Based on what I've seen, I don't know that there's another game on our schedule that I'm remotely confident in. Maybe South Carolina? Even Arkansas isn't a sure win this year - they play hard for Pittman.

Pelini is no Aranda. Certainly losing the players we did was rough, but the condition of LSU defensively is more than just that.
Offensively we have things to work on and improve, but Brennan and the offense have done more than enough to get us to 3-0. I know people point to Mizzou's goal line stand to end the game as an example of how our Offense took a step back, but I'd offer a counter point that if you score 40+ points and depend on a last second touch down to win a game, offense is not your real issue.

Best post so far. Should be better, but it's an incredibly thin and inexperienced roster. Coaching is heavily to blame as well though

Can think of 2 just in the Playoff era alone.
This is Chizik all over again. 1 great year with a transfer QB and a Hotshot OC. Celebrate it !!! Some schools never win one !!!

I guess this might would make sense if LSU's passing game wasnt the one bright spot.

LSU has the fourth best record in FBS in the 21st century, 5 SEC titles, and three national titles; even if you don't count 2007 that's tied for second most. I don't think 1 year wonder is really applicable. Only Bama, OSU and Oklahoma have been more consistent. Clemson was mediocre until 2014

Where is Mizzou, since they led to this argument?
