Why does LSU choose to leave off the A&M in their name?

Because we are not the little brother institution of our state and there is no need to differentiate outlrsenves like aTm has to do with UT

Cause it’s not necessary.
LSU speaks for itself.
Texas A&M.....take off the A&M and you have their big brother.

Additional question:
Typically the “state university” designation is reserved for the lower tiered school (Texas state, cal state, etc). Is this the case in Louisiana and if not how did you get it backwards?

Ever heard of The Ohio State University? Same thing.

Please define lower tier regarding academic performance and admission standards coinciding with
institutional resources, compared to a flagship university, so we can better answer your question.
While you're pondering that

Why does a bird sing? Lying is just what LieSU does. It's part of the established pattern of lies that have become endemic at that university.

First off, UT is in Knoxville.
Secondly if you are not careful we will place your tiny state in our panhandle and while there would be a big gulf between Texas and Mississippi and no one will care.

LSU doesn’t leave A&M off of the name, which is Louisiana State University and A&M College, or even more formally, Louisiana State University and Agricultural & Mechanical College, but there is no need to include A&M in the abbreviation. LSU is not the name of the university, but the common abbreviation or nickname. Does that clear it up for you?
The A&M part of the name comes from the fact that the A&M College, formerly a separate school in a different city, was not originally part of LSU, but was merged into the university many years ago. So LSU was known as LSU before the merger.

If I’m not mistaken, Tulane was originally the University of Louisiana.
May have had something to do with it.

On the “state” part of the name:
At the time the name of the school was changed from the original name, Louisiana State Seminary for Learning, there was no other public university in Louisiana. However, there was a University of Louisiana, now known as Tulane University. After Paul Tulane made a substantial donation to that university, the name was changed to Tulane University of Louisiana. Therefore, it would have made little sense to name the state’s flagship university “University of Louisiana.” That name as already in use. Pretty similar to Penn State and Penn. The former is public; the latter is private.

Because we didn’t have to wait until the 60’s to add University to our name
