USC contacted BoA in Charlotte, which was vacant this weekend, in an attempt to play it there. Many more USC fans could have used the tickets they already had, etc. It would have been a fine option, but I'd venture to guess that the conference wanted it to stay in the conference footprint, and saw it as a way to reimburse LSU fans for the game you already lost.
sounds like a big obstacle in Charlotte was that BoA was just reseeded this week

The entire state was hit including Clemson students and alum. They're also in different leagues.
Is that supposed to make them seem like a better candidate to host than BR?

Spurrier's visor flew straight off when he heard the news.

YOU are the one that just suggested Clemson

Are you drunk?

What makes you think the conference had more pull in this than you AD did? And you're acting like there is any competitive difference in where this game is played. Yall were going to lose regardless.
We know we were going to lose. It's not about competitive advantage; it's about the people who were planning on going to the game being able to do so. I was traveling in from out of state to see it, much like many other fans. Charlotte would have been feasible, whereas BR is out of the question.
Again, I'm not mad about the game being moved. I hope y'all have a great time. I'm just disappointed that it's not where more USC fans can realistically make it, seeing as how it was supposed to be a home game.

I agree with you. However, this is definitely the best and most realistic solution to the problem though. I think if you're doing this on such short notice, Baton Rouge was the only choice you have.

Moving to BR was a shrewd business decision by your AD, LSU's AD, and the SEC. SC is losing gate revenue by moving it anywhere, that is a fact. By moving it to a neutral site, the gate revenue would be minimal. SC and LSU travel well, but on this short notice travel would be difficult.
By moving the game to BR and giving the entire gate revenue to SC, SC stands to make considerably more than a neutral site game. This game was moved, period, for the best interests of the citizens and first responders of SC. The game was moved in BR to minimize the economic loss experienced by SC.
Get your head out of your arse.

And it's entirely possible that BoA said to get lost. My only argument is that, once it was clear the game needed to be moved, and Tanner pulled the trigger, it was entirely likely that the conference strongly suggested BR over any other option. That's all.

i really think it came down to money. usc stands to make a lot more money off this game having it in baton rouge, whereas they probably would make little to none having a neutral site game after covering expenses incurred by the city of Charlotte and BoA. you're likely to get twice as many fans at the game in baton rouge as opposed to any neutral sites entertained.

But LSU isn't doing that, from what I can tell in this thread. They're splitting receipts.

twice as many fans period, not usc fans specifically. even if the game was moved to charlotte, on this short of notice, you're not going to be able to expect more than 30-40k people at that game. you have it in baton rouge, you can expect closer to 90k. that twice as many people for ticket sales and concessions.

they're splitting proceeds to cover the expenses they'll incur to host the game. they're not going to take a 2 million dollar hit to put on the game and then give all the money to south carolina. they're doing basically what arizona st did. arizona state kept the revenue to cover expenses and gave the remainder to lsu. if you had the game in charlotte, they'd also keep money to cover the expense of putting on the game and give whatever was left over to south carolina, but that game would have half as many people, so the money left over would be much less.

No. South Carolina is keeping it all (minus LSU's costs of course)

This is an opportunity for LSU to pay forward the kindness and compassion on display in Tempe in 2005 when our game was moved due to Katrina.
I hope they raise a lot of money for the victims of the catastrophic flooding in South Carolina.

The NASCAR race Saturday night meant that they probably didn't have the first responders to handle the game either
