Why did they need to make him a new deal if he his contract didnt let him be hired?
Like I said, he either used you to get a raise or your administration didnt check into if you could even hire him.

Because he could have left for another NFL team. His contract prohibited him from taking a college job.

I would imagine that Nielsen and/or his lawyers believed that the Saints would let him out of that clause in his contract.
