Dude spent the last 18 years in the NFL as a DL coach, gigantic upgrade over Meatball for the season, huge hire this late in the game.

R C had to fire someone after Mississippi State & Jackie embarrassed him in the Snow Bowl in Shreveport.
He couldn't can Mike Hankwitz the DC or Steve Kragthorpe, the OC so it had to be Johnson.
I think Johnson went to Arkansas.

We aren't 'just now' hiring a DL coach. Coach O was a DL coach in the past, but was 6-2 as Head Coach at Southern Cal and is 25-9 at LSU.
Dennis Johnson is our Defensive Line Coach. He suffered a serious injury and will not be able to coach from the sidelines this year, but he has been with Coach O since he started.

A former A&M coach, Bill Johnson was most recently the Assistant Texas A&M Lab School Girls Badmitton Yell Team Cheer Instructor........

That makes much more sense now in that context. Sounds like LSU got a quality coach to fill in at the position. Sorry to hear about DJ's injury and thanks for proving some background to the situation.
