With Notre Dame making the CFP title game under his successor, Marcus Freeman, Kelly's previous comments upon jumping from South Bend to Baton Rouge -- claiming he needed enough resources to win a championship -- have risen back to the surface.
When the 2025 season begins, though, LSU could have Kelly back in the spotlight for good reasons. And because of nothing Notre Dame-related.
Paul Finebaum predicted the Tigers would have a strong season in response to Kelly's old team's run to the national championship game. Finebaum foresees LSU making next season's 12-team field and breaking a longstanding opening-game losing streak.
"I don't think Brian Kelly is going to be in trouble because I think that he's going to have a big year," Finebaum said on The Paul Finebaum Show. "I think Brian Kelly is going to beat Clemson in the opener and he's going to be in the playoff next year."
In November, Finebaum spoke of Kelly as an afterthought once LSU had lost four games and dropped out of the playoff picture.
"I was watching the Alabama game and watching the Auburn game, and I had to remember at about midnight what happened at LSU. I assumed that LSU won because otherwise, I would have had 15 texts about Brian Kelly. But it was hard. The good news is, he won the game. The bad news is, I don't know, how much interest there was as long as he won. That was all that mattered," Finebaum said of the Vanderbilt game on The Matt Barrie Show.
One thing's for certain: Finebaum doesn't view the Tigers as a potential afterthought in 2025.
There is this that might work in BK's favor.

What are you talking about? This is a good article that BK may get his shot in 2025 to make a run to the championship. I am just posting articles about what others are saying about BK. One of the previous articles I posted is about this year. This one is about next year. This is in favor of BK and LSU to make the playoffs in 2025. I am not going to say anything about next year until I get all the information from all of the teams that LSU will be playing against in 2025. Good Luck to 2025. This might be the real deal or not. I don't really know yet until I get all the information leading up to the first game of 2025. I will wait about a month or so before the start of the first game to see if BK and LSU will make the playoffs and win at least one playoff game.

Hopefully LSU buys some stronger press conference tables during the off-season. Those poor things will take a pounding next season.
