LSU football program ranked #1 in the SEC
The criteria is all over the place.
If it's historical success, Alabama and Notre Dame are 1 and 2.
If it's current success, Texas, USC, and Florida are WAY too high.
The only way to rank LSU above Florida is to either limit it to more recent years, in which case Michigan is laughable at 6, or count all of football history, in which case Bama at 7 and ND at 10 is way too low.
But if it's mainly wins, why is Michigan only 6th?
I can see some justification for many of these teams where they are, but I can't find ANY consistent justification for this list. It's garbage.
I love how you say "the only way to rank LSU ahead of Florida is limit it to recent years", yet you have Alabama #1 historically.
Really ??????????
Bama was not regarded as such pre-Saban. ND, Mich, Okla, tOSU, Texas all had more wins and most of them STILL DO....
LSU is # 12 all-time in number of victories (and this was true """"""BEFORE"""""" Saban) and #8 in bowl apperances. Florida doesn't even come close to those numbers. They have recent NCs, but so does LSU.
As far as THIS PARTICULAR LIST, it is their opinion of the CURRENT best football programs regarding the state of each program right now, taking into account more than just wins and losses but intangibles.
It is NOT a "historical" listing.....
In that sense, they are pretty accurate.

You honestly think LSU is the #4 program in the nation?
No. Top 10? Yes. The list is retarded and will drum up some clicks for the site. I assume he is taking into account facilities, recruiting base, etc. That being said, I'll take wins over all of that and LSU isn't first in the SEC when it comes to that.

Your hatred of Alabama does not allow even the tiniest amount of logic to penetrate.
It is your opinion that the CURRENT three best programs are Ohio State, then Texas, then USC? That Michigan is #6, Alabama is #7, and Notre Dame is #10?
Justify just that much USING THE SAME CONSISTENT CRITERIA and I'll listen to you. You can't do it.

#2 SEC and #5 overall even after Muschamp. Not too shabby.

any list either historical or modern that doesn't have alabama at least in the top 3 is completely worthless

Crimson,
All I said was that it was "their" opinion.
And I said was it was "pretty accurate", I didn't say that was "my opinion" too or that I "agreed with it."
I don't necessarily agree with the order of their list of programs. All of these programs are historical blue bloods and/or have great historical tradition. You could probably interchange all of these and they would be pretty close to each other.
What I think they were trying to convey was more than just historical numbers but maybe the health and reputation of each program and the intangibles involved.
And actually, I DON'T hate Alabama. I do have disdain for some of your fans. I repeat - "SOME". But I have a lot of respect for a lot of the posters on this board.

LSU has always been above Florida. The head to head is only a 4 game difference in their favor.

How does a #1 ranked SEC team let this happen to them?

My problem with the list is not LSU at #4, or Ohio State at #1, or Alabama at #7, or Michigan at #6, or Notre Dame at #10. You could create a set of criteria that could justify each of those individually. But there are no criteria that could justify those rankings TOGETHER, and that is what bothers me. He needs to decide what are the most important factors and apply them consistently.
You could define some criteria that might justify LSU at #4 and Bama at #7. That claim by itself is not ridiculous, depending on what you value most. But what could you possibly use to rank LSU at #4 and Alabama at #7, and then put Michigan at #6 and Ohio State at #1?
I believe I have sufficiently shared my butthurt on this, so I'll try to let it go now.
