No Jindal is not to blame. Edwards is the governor and must take responsibly for the economic conditions. His first action as governor was to expand Medicaid costing the state millions then he proceeded to raise an already high state sales tax to 6 percent statewide. I take Jindal and lower taxes anyday. JBE is a terrible leader for the state of Louisiana, he is running political ads bosting about a 1000 per year teacher raise. That's about 15 per week after tax, what a joke.

Maybe. But this nothing new. The school referenced lack of funding as an impediment to on two occasions in years past. Once having to do with a coaching change. And once it had to do with the state not being able to help fund an improvement. Both times have been in the recent five year span and one discussion was triggered by the hire of the current head football which some supporters got heated up about. So it seems perpetual. Don't know what the current issue is. I do know this, even if a shortfall of funding was the rationale for the hiring of Orgeron it may have been a blessing in disguise since he appears to be doing great.

Whoa!!!! 6%? Are you serious? And for such a blasphemous reason like healthcare? Omg!!! How horrible!!

Get bent. It’s 7% in Mississippi and in some areas it’s 8%.

So the athletic department is flush with cash, but the academic portion of the school is broke? Am I the only one that thinks this is backwards as hell. I mean third world country backwards. Are folks in Louisiana ok with how their limited resources are being spent?

Southeastern
University of New Orleans
Grambling

Southern University System:
Southern BR
Southern NO
Southern Shreveport (2-year)

So between the three systems, that's 14 4 year public higher education campuses in Louisiana. There is **zero** reason why a State with a population ~4.6M people needs that many.

Wow, that's absurd

Well yea what Edwards has done hasn’t helped but that doesn’t mean Jindal isn’t to blame. It still started with him.

Oh yeah just like Obama is to blame for the trump economy? Get real the economy slowed in La. when Edwards took office everyone knew he wanted to raise taxes and spend more on government assistance, and that's exactly what he has done.

Was it an issue pre-Jindal or did Jindal just have the best chance to fix a broken system?

Well as you know I’m quite young so maybe not the best for this. As far as whether it was already an issue, what I have gathered over the years is that it was a decently sized issue that Jindal just made 100 times worse.

My gripe with the state forever. It blows my mind that only Health and Higher Education are allowed to be cut due to shortfalls while everything else is protected. Crooked, crooked, crooked.

Bull shite. Jindal was not good for LA, especially his second term, but the problem comes directly from our state constitution that only allows funding cuts to higher education and hospitals.

The crooked arse politicians figures they’d never have a budget cut if everything else was protected so they wrote it into law.

Agreed. I've joked for a long time that with so many universities and redundancy in programs, kids in Louisiana decide first where they want to go to school, then what major. It should be the opposite with limited options per major.
