Given his reputation, I would think it’d be significantly higher than that.
Wouldn’t be surprised if he gets an additional pay bump soon if he stays. Contract runs through May 2018. It’s somewhat of a unique situation since he is first to have a GM title. There def aren’t many people on his level. He is very thorough in what he does.

Well his wife is an LSU grad and all her family is in Louisiana so you would have to convince her to leave everything for Knoxville.
I honestly think Thomas doesnt want to go back to Tennessee. You guys might force our AD to pay him more which as an LSU fan Im glad will happen.

Lot of chatter that he's coming home and will be a part of the next Tennessee staff.
Hey, we gave you Janzen Jackson and you screwd that up. You did well with Peyton. You had Orgeron and Frank Wilson. Louisiana can't keep giving you resources.

The only upward position for him would be going to NFL and I think he would have already jumped if he wanted to make that move. He showed how much he loved LSU after leaving USCw after a few months to return.

What on earth would make you think that? Given that his father is currently on the Athletic board at the University of Tennessee?

Soooo prep him to be the next AD in a decade or so seems to be the play here. I like the internal grooming of a UT guy approach.
He wants to be an NFL GM, not a college administrator. Your coaching hire is going to go a long way to determine his interest because the head coach is going to have to be someone who will allow Austin to have input in personnel decisions. At LSU, he has built a great deal of trust from Orgeron and staff. That's going to be hard for him to leave for what can really only be a lateral move.

"Austin I believe one day will be an NFL General Manager," Orgeron told me. "He's very talented. He's the general manager. I trust him in all aspects. He can have the keys to the car. I trust him in everything that he does."
Thomas hopes his boss is right about the NFL future. That's his long-term goal. A couple of years ago, Thomas had an NFL job in hand, and was ready to accept. Thomas and his wife, Brittney, even visited then-recruiting coordinator Frank Wilson at his house to pass on his decision to leave LSU but by the time he left Wilson's home, his perspective had changed.

It's entirely possible that his father told him to stay away from Tennessee until Butch Jones was gone.

Oh absolutely, and if we frick up the coaching hire, he has no reason to leave LSU.

What makes you think his wife’s dad being on the LSU board of Athletics is any less important

Because he's a man, a man who built the Eifle Tower out of metal, and brawn. She's just a woman with a tiny brain, with a brain 1/3 the size of ours, it's science.

It’s not rustling you are seeing, it’s more like heckling a stand up comedian during his act
