A little lightning never hurt no one.

We have had far worse "stiff dews" in Tiger Stadium before, but the lightning bolts were sporadic, and the way too long 30 minute mandatory wait made it impossible to get going again.
RMC is right, 15 years ago that game is played.

I hated it for LSU that they didn't get to play.
But there isn't a university/athletics administrator alive who would've risked it.
Not in a million.
I posted this in a thread last night: A little girl from a town outside of Waco was struck by lightning last week.
The storm was just moving in.
Apparently she's still in a coma.

I mean, it makes sense. They've got TV times, etc. to worry about, each school has to listen to HQ.

Could not have been played last night but theres no reason in the world it couldn't have been played today. Lake Charles is only 2 hours away even if they couldn't find hotel rooms, and they don't even have school tomorrow its a holiday. If they moved Tn. to Monday night after Katrina they sure as hell should have played this one.

Will the game be rescheduled? I've been too busy to read about it.
Will a cancellation hurt LSU in the long run?
Last year Florida's didn't matter, but we're talking a different year and team.

Real opponent this game is played...yesterday or today or two months from now.
Should be played.
Should be played.

No. Neither team is interested in a rematch, and neither team was interested in playing today.

Will a cancellation against an in-state directional program hurt? No. LSU could have started that game as late as 11:59. SEC didn't want the game to restart then, as that would have meant it wouldn't end until 3 AM. Didn't matter either way, as the weather was too dangerous.
It's over. Done with. Fin. Won't be replayed, and doesn't count as a game. Never happened.

Seriously, dude. Do you have a legit link to the SEC offices telling LSU not to play the game? I'm genuinely curious. I sure can't.

What will hurt is all LSU players in contention for post season awards especially cumulative ones...

If it had been a SEC game the league rules would have dictated. Since it was not, it was LSU's call and they pretty much deferred to the SEC rules.
I actually was thinking last night that the nightmare scenario was restarting the game and McNeese going up in the score then play being suspended again and LSU getting hung with an asterick game. At that point also the potential for a less than expected performance was getting higher for both squads. After the 10:00 delay the stadium was pretty much empty. It would have sucked to come play a game at midnight with nobody there...
And also the issue of getting a player hurt with a season ending injury at 2:00 AM in a FCS matchup was not very palatable.

That sounds a lot more plausible than "Birmingham called and shut us down!"
Birmingham and their lightning machine..

For the life of me, I cannot understand. How can fans of LSU blame Alabama, the REC, and the location of the SEC headquarters in Birmingham for the cancellation of this game?
After the cancellation, the TR was on full rant saying it was an Alabama plot to deny LSU (1) a National Championship; (2) insure Fornette doesn't win the Heisman; (3) cost LSU money paying the other team.
It was full court rant...Alabama REC in cahoots with the SEC office and the vitriol was on a melt level. Strangest thing I've read on these boards... and that is saying a lot. Can anyone share some light(ning) about logic behind this fantasy?

I was on the other side of town where the storm was sitting, and there was literally lightning every 2 seconds. I have never seen a higher rate of the stuff. Stupid storm.

It sucks they didn't play, but it would have been asinine to play today. Without playing today, we can prep for Moo St. that much longer. Nobody's worn out. Nobody got injured.
No big deal.
No big deal.

Did LSU still have to shell out the 500,000$ fee even though it was cancelled??

Well lightning didn't strike the band or fans that sat out there during the storm so I would say yes.
