I was trying to get beyond the rhetoric and just talk about the result of the proposed change. I see you aren't interested in that.
Well,I didn't mean to blow you off. That wasn't my intentions. To specifically answer your question, sure that could happen over a period of time. Year to year you never know. Maybe play Florida home and home for 6 of 10 yrs in a decade or something like that.
If we're going to toss out some ideas, what about considering rotating a division game? Is there anything sacred about Vanderbilt-Florida or Arkansas-Auburn ? Just tossing that out there, but in any attempt to preserve 'big games' a look at intra divisional games should be explored.

I want to keep the Florida game. I'd like to play UT and UGA more often though.

Keeps our schedule better than bamas, so yeah

quote:That has been my point in other threads. Year to year, the 6-2 is actually less competitively balanced than the 6-1-1. If you look at it over time, it is superior, but college football is played for annual championships not championships over time.
Year to year you never know.
Matching the haves and have nots against each other may not be the most fair or equitable scheduling, but there is no doubt it produces the most competitive balance and mostly prevents the larger discrepancy in scheduling imbalance that we will see with the 6-2 on an annual basis.

If we're going to toss out some ideas, what about considering rotating a division game?

having more of those top match-ups is part of what makes the SEC better than the other conferences
Yes, I agree. Our current rotation of twice every five years has created a lot of great matchups, and that has made the SEC better than the other conferences. LSU and Tennessee played three heartbreakers in 2005, 2006 and 2010. Auburn and Florida played a couple of thrillers in 2006 and 2007. Alabama and Georgia had a great overtime game in 2007. LSU and Georgia had that controversial game in 2009 with the unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. South Carolina made its case for being one of the big boys with an upset of then-#1 Alabama on the way to a division title in 2010, then had the 2011 division title slip away with an upset loss at home to Auburn.
Now, we've given all of that up, since none of those matchups will occur more than once a decade with this format.
But at least we get to see Alabama kick Tennessee's arse again...and again...and again...so I guess it all balances out.

I think the NCAA rule that allows divisions and a championship game also requires a round robin schedule within each division.

Just did. I like that.

I graduated from LSU in 1984 and in the four football seasons, 1980-1983 I never saw LSU play Herschel Walker or Bo Jackson.

i really dont care about playing florida every year. but the 6-1-1 format sucks. im sorry that auburn/uga and ut/bama want to play every year. time to give something up. i didnt want to add schools that didnt belong in the conference either but the sec went ahead and did it anyway. so dont blame lsu when the schedule is so f'ed up that you dont play a team for 12 year.
12 F'ING YEARS!

ok checking..yep correct.
eta: i just did 6x2. i suppose you technically may be correct in it's 11 years. but it's 12 years between home games.

Maybe I need to check my facts then. I was under the impression that under the 6-1-1, the rotating game would rotate annually and not bi-annually. Am I wrong on that?
Posted on 6/1/12 at 9:18 am to WDE24
wait you mean you would play a team on the road and the next year they would not come to your house?
even if that's true its still 12 years before you play them at home.

Definitely want to keep playing them every year. It's one of my favorite games each season.

yeah i agree and disagree with martin/alleva. i want the UF game every year, but i also understand the 6-1-1 format is a terrible idea. so basically i dont have a solution.
well i have one (keep the conference at 12 teams) but it's too late for that.

No problem with it. Bring on Corrine Brown and the Gatas

Florida is one of my favorite games every year. I want them as our permanent east rival if we stay with 6-1-1, but I prefer 6-2 for the faster rotation of teams.
