Yeah, but there was this one time they had a 9-7 lead in the 4th quarter and lost on a FG, so....defense's fault, Chavis sucks*
*Note that I just saw the light on this and realized Chavis sucks recently, I didn't think so 8 months ago

Well, I know I was surely relieved after having such a corn-hole shitty defense, that we fired our soccer coach. Things are moving in the right direction for our football program.

I honestly cant believe they blame Chavis for the Bama game last year. They scored 13 goddamn points on offense, 3 of which were the result of a NEGATIVE 16 YARD DRIVE after their defense gift wrapped the game for them by recovering a fumble on Bama's six yard line. They had 76 yards passing, and a turnover which allowed Bama to get three points on a seven yard drive.
So Chavis effectively allows 7 points through the first 58 minutes and he gets the blame because Cam Cameron couldnt score a touchdown from the fricking six yard line.

Another one of those success despite Chavis stories, eh?

Tennessee, another program which regularly fielded top-20 defenses apparently in spite of John Chavis.
Dude is the most fortunate sumbitch in SEC history it sounds like.

It's funny, the only loss I haven't heard them blame Chavis for was 21-0. The tigers had to have scored ZERO points for them to even consider placing the blame elsewhere*
*Let me again clarify that the blame was put plenty of other places before, but the holy spirit came down upon Louisiana the night of December 30, 2014 and showed them the light. Amen.

But it's all about TALENT AGGYS.
WE DON"T HAVE ANY frickING TALENT!!!
According to 247sports:
Roster Breakdown (just defense):

Somebody make a serious argument that one team is more talented than another to any significant degree. Please. Stop with the dumbs talking points and insecurity.

That '98 Vols team would have beat the '00 Baltimore Ravens though. Tee Martin made Tom Brady look like a hobo.

Even the Auburn game, which was a shite show defensively by LSU, wasnt exactly the defense alone. Les Miles in his infinite wisdom decided to give a true freshman his first start EVER on the road against a top 10 SEC team and decide to keep handing the ball off every play down 20. At least Sumlin gave Kyle Allen a warm up start against a cupcake and then went out and played to win at Auburn. Its almost like Miles was proving a point, the offense didnt even pretend like they were trying to win.
Only scoring 7 against Auburn last year should have been impossible.

LSU has more developed defensive talent (Not because of Chavis, obviously) because Mark Snyder's solution to being on the hot seat was to make his defense MORE complicated and then insert true freshmen and sophomores into positions where they had to make about 10 decisions every play.
LSU is loaded at DB, not questions there. We have just as much if not more raw talent along the defensive line however, and LSU has suffered from a lack of a pass rush the last couple of years.

Yes. I have analyzed that Auburn game too.
Watch this:
possessions:
LSU - 0 (3 & out)
AU - 3 (6 plays 49 yards)
LSU - 0 (3 & out 9 yards) defebse had 1:26 rest w/ zero points added
AU - 7 (5 plays 67 yards)
LSU - 0 (3 & out 2 yards). - the defense had 1:45 rest with zero points added
AU - 7 (started at own 40, 50 plays 60 yards)
LSU - 7
AU - 7
LSU - 0 (3 & out 6 yards). Defense had 1:37 rest and no points added
AU - 0 (d held)
LSU - 0 (3 & out) 2:16 rest with no points added.
AU - 0 (d held)
LSU - 0 (3rd 1st down of the game for LSU but 1:18 of redt for D. No points)
AU - 7
LSU - 0 (4 th and 5th 1st downs of the game)(Auburn in prevent D)
Half
AU - 0 (d held, 6 plays 13 yards)
LSU - 0 (3 & out, 1 yard) 1:56 of D rest with 0 points added.
AU - 3 (d held AU to field goal, only allowed 29 yards)
LSU - 0 (3 & out with negative 3 yards and 1:16 rest for D)
AU - 0 (d forced fumble)
LSU - 0 (4 plays 4th down turnover on downs, 9 yards. 1:44 d rest)
AU - 0 (d held. 23 yards)
LSU - 0 (finally another LSU drive. 8 plays 62 yards. Still no points)
AU - 7
LSU - 0 (long drive but it is all over by now )
AU - 0 (ran clock out)
This game was NOTHING but shitty offense on LSU's part. You can't go 3 & out 5 of the first 6 possessions and expect the defense to hold. If LSU could have at least somewhat matched AU production, the game would have been interesting.

Precisely why we wanted Brick gone and were ambivalent about Chavis.

LSU hasnt had great rush ends in several years.
