I currently don't live in Alabama stupid. But yes we did go to the school we root for unlike op.

Its not that weird if you actually stop and think about it.
Most USM students will obviously come from the Coast which has plenty of families with Louisiana roots who have relocated.
Its also much closer to Baton Rouge than Oxford or Starkville, thus many kids in southern Mississippi grow up as LSU fans but will attend USM.
Most I know root for both; they obviously play at two different levels so its not like you're rooting for two SEC schools every weekend.

Not entirely... my younger brother is a Florida fan, but they don't have men's soccer. So because he played elsewhere it's pathetic to be a fan of Florida
