You LSU fans who were around before Saban, how many of you actually cared about football to the point where you had high expectations for the Tigers? I mean no one thought they were ever more than a 2nd tier team but how many of you really cared about the program?

I cared bigly about LSU football in the 80's and went to a lot of games. Fast Forward to 90's and LSU sucks, I got married in 89, poppin out kids, and built two houses. hell it was 2000 before I knew what hit me. Definitely started following more closely when they started winning again and winning championships.

You dumb! Ask that again when we beat that arse in the early 80s with Dalton Hilliard and we put the great Bear in his grave a few months later.

May I direct your attention to the following 1982 production called "Men of LSU"?

Men of LSU (1982)

LSU's fan base has always been pretty intense. Of course, we haven't yet had a fan become famous for killing a rival's historic live oaks.

I’m 38, first LSU game was when I was 4, I’ve been a fan my whole life, went to school there. The 90s were brutal but my first year at LSU was 2001 and I was around during the Giant waking up period. It was awesome.

The 80s were nice, the 90s were rough. Thank God we were dominating in baseball

Tiger fans have always been pretty fanatical. There’s no question about that.

They didn’t really have a reason to have those expectations.

What exactly are you implying? That Saban changed LSU forever? I agree. And I think we’ve maintained success pretty well since he’s been gone. No not nearly to the level if he had stayed here, but we’ve done pretty good. So we expect to maintain that similar success going forward. I know many have been waiting for LSU to fall into Tennessee territory, but I’m not seeing that happening.

What did Saban accomplish prior to coaching at LSU?

Saban had developed a reputation as a hard driven, no nonsense coach who could rehab a team and give it solid fundamentals.

Scrappy and tough fighters, win or lose, were what his teams were known for among those who watched his teams and played them.

As the Big12 giants started to fall to this little guy on this little brother team, the larger teams started to become aware of Saban.

Much like Bryant was known as a rehabilitater of teams, this was Saban's boathouse. He was the hot young coach doing what wasn't supposed to be done. Like Bryant at Kentucky and A&M, Saban impressed people with his style of coaching and the results of that style.

That is why LSU wanted Saban so badly. A few smart people at LSU knew they were total shite and it wasn't changing anytime soon so they took a chance on a hard working new guy.

What did Bryant really accomplish, NC championship-wise, before he arrived back home to visit his Bama family and friends? How about just thinking for a second before trying to get a cheap thrill post in.

LSU before Saban
Winning bring us in a lot of fans that never cared before. bama should know that better than anyone.

UA has 2x as many SEC titles and 5x more NC's than LSU

Yeah in La. for sure but outside in places like Ms, Tn, Al?

Places like Nashville, Mobile and parts of Ms have plenty of alumni

Same with Dallas and Houston

95-97 was a very good run considering how the early 90s went

To act like LSU was Pre-Bill Snyder KState before 2000 is just woefully ignorant

In 2003, I responded to I. Maisel on ESPN about top teams of SEC over the previous decade. Sure enough, he published mine.

Why? I had forgotten to list Alabama. Completely left off the list.

He noted that I did not note Alabama, and quoted me to underscore the point at how low Alabama had fallen.

Saban cast shadow on The Bear...well done.
