You could have argued Bobo was in the exact same boat. OC for an offensive minded coach who everyone agrees will always have his "hands" in things. Bobo calls plays the same as Smart, but nobody really knew how much was his and how much was Richt.
The difference is Bobo is an offensive coach and he was willing to take a mid-major job. I think Smart could get a job like Colorado State if he wanted but for whatever reason he has decided he doesn't want to do that. My guess is at some point in the next few years he is going to decide he needs to do it.
I don't really see what going to another school to be a coordinator proves in terms of his ability to be a head coach (which is what Saban has basically told him the last few times this has come up).

I wouldn't want to see Kirby go to LSU. Smart has been Saban's right hand man and one of our best recruiters...especially in Georgia.
That would be a solid hire for us in the long run. We don't really have the personnel for his scheme right now.
I think it might be an upgrade for us overall, but we won't get him.

haha no I'm not an alter. Im just newish to the rant.
I think y'all survive to.
Both our programs are receiving a lot of criticism and doubt right now and I honestly hope that both our programs turn it around next season
You coming to knoxville?

BUT Kirby Smart still is just 39 years old. He has plenty of time before he's really risking "getting passed up" by his peers.
Unless he takes an HC job in the next year or two, he's going to be watching Bobo, Morris, et al all interviewing for big time HC jobs with better resumes than his. If he wants to slow play it, I get it. But younger coaches tend to be more energetic and attractive from a longevity standpoint. He doesn't have to take something this year but I've gotta think he moves on by no later than next offseason.
Or he maybe thinking he's going to take the Jimbo Fisher route to HC. Honestly I have no idea. Jimbo seems to be the only successful HC in waiting I can think of off the top of my head.

get lost in the shuffle when guys like Bobo, Muschamp, Chad Morris, etc. are all looking to move into those big HC roles
I think Msuchamp may have gone to the back of the line. Also i am surprised how young this guy is.
He is only 39. he could coach another 4-5 years as DC, and still be a HC at the same age Saban was.

People get tired of being around Saban quite often.

Saban has had a pretty steady staff the last 5-6 years. Most of the guys we have lost have either been let go (Nuss) or gone to better jobs (Pruitt, McElwain), and we have brought back a lot of old assistants (Thompson, Davis, Steele). And Smart has spent his whole career with Saban. I doubt he'd leave because he is tired of working with him.

I would LOVE to come to Knoxville, but Mrs Blacknblu would probably object to me stranding her with the kiddos

Question, is Jimmy Sexton Smarts attorney?

It helps when the school is willing to pay more than anyone else too.

Nothing more than a way to get Smart a little bit more money.

While I have much respect for KS, I would not melt if he left. I don't know anyone that would.
I will tell you that if he does leave, it will be like with Nuss, he was helped out the door.

LSU is just making alabama pay more money to Smart for shits and giggles.

Also, say Smart leaves for LSU, would that mean Pruitt to Bama leaving UGA holding the bag????
No. Smart to LSU, Bill Clark to Bama.
Melt for everybody.

Can you imagine what Kirby could do with LSUs talent?
Sure I can, he would do a little worse than he has at Bama, which has been tops in the SEC for the past 6 years.

I'd bet he just gets a raise from this

LSU can do better considering the beatdown Ohio gave Bama.

Bama didn't play Ohio.
Also, you would love the DC of the team that has beat LSU 4 in a row.
