He was a finalist for the Alabama baseball job last time around. Rumors he had accepted the position until Bill Battle low balled him on the contract.

Here we are again after the failed Gregg Goff experiment. New AD that knows how to hire a baseball coach.

Godwin has been good at East Carolina. But they're having a down season in 2017.

Was he a good recruiter at LSU and Ole Miss? What are your thoughts on him as a coach and developer?

I thought we'd go the Cohen coaching tree route. That's what Greg Byrne is familiar with. But rumors keep picking up on Godwin.

Wish we still had him. Actually had us hitting the ball. A rarity for OM baseball. If we could hit the ball to go along with our pitching with most of Bianco's past and present teams, we would...frick it. We would WAOM in some other improbable impossible ridiculous way.

Did the whole staff get fired? If yall get Godwin, he could be reunited with Terry Rooney, with whom he coached at LSU before joining Rooney's first staff at Central Florida.

He wouldn't have much to work with in 2018 on offense, but some decent pitching.

Would you say he was instrumental in recruiting? National approach?

He got ole miss to hit well enough to get to Omaha and break the streak. He's a beast recruiter too.

You have to be an insane recruiter at Alabama. Like Jim Wells. No lottery scholarships. And Alabama doesn't yet offer instate tuition like Ole Miss and Mississippi State for border states.

I just remember our hitting getting better. Google Cliff Godwin Ole Miss coach bio and it gives you a good run down of his body of work. He recruited at an elite level at LSU in 07 and developed many on both teams into AA with several being drafted to MLB. I remember many in the OM camp that wanted to see him take the reins at OM.

I have faith in Greg Byrne making an elite hire. He hired Cohen at Mississippi State and Jay Johnson at Arizona. But I'm liking Godwin. Wasn't sure he'd be interested again. But it's sounding like it.

He's the opposite of Goff. Very positive motivating type. He wasn't our primary recruiter but he's gotten some good classes at ecu I believe.

I'm not sure what Goff was. An unparalleled a-hole?

I don't believe this is an accurate statement. Please feel free to tell me I am wrong but MS does not offer this as of yet

Lots of baseball coaches are assholes. He was way up the a-hole rankings though. Cliff's a players coach for sure.

The scholarship inequities the program faces is well known. Alabama isn’t able to supplement the 11.7 scholarships the NCAA allows with lottery scholarships that most other SEC programs get. Alabama also doesn’t allow in-state tuition to neighboring states that some schools allow.

This is the run down some baseball writers have pushed.

Swamp trash. Is that what you want to hear? Or did you even know Godwin was an assistant at LSU?

Take a former MSU assistant coach, they've done well at Kentucky and Auburn.
