LSU wore white at home for a long time.
NCAA made a rule back in the 80's I believe indicating the home teams were not allowed to wear white any longer, had to wear the dark color with all road teams in white.
When DiNardo took over, LSU petitioned the NCAA to allow LSU to wear white at home with permission from the opponent if they agree. One year Vandy did not let LSU wear white at home and LSU wore gold jerseys that game. Everyone else has let LSU wear white at home for the most part.
Same thing USC and UCLA did with their game as both wanted to wear their colors and they do it for that game.

LSU does still wear purple for any non conference game besides the first one at home

I like the tradition, but the purple jerseys are sharp and should be worn more often.

They looked sharp last year vs. Troy.

We didn't play Troy last year....but it's nice to know you're still holding on to that game....

In the early days of night games, it was easier to pick out our own boys in the dim lighting.

I was only able to watch about 6 quarters of CFB last year. My honest mistake.

The white jerseys and bright yellow (gold) helmets and pants were started bout 1956 or 57 by Paul Dietzel. As the new LSU coach he wanted to try something different to draw interest in his new team. The old colors were of course the purple and old gold.

I always love when Florida wears the orange pants with the white jerseys. Those are clean!

I like the whites. But I don’t dislike the purple.

Geez, man. The Bama-beating-on-LSU thing is starting to annoy even me. It really does start to look like worry.

Technically any SEC school can force LSU to wear their purples if they choose.

But its so steeped in tradition at this point that its become a part of college football.

No LSU wore some white jerseys back in 1910 range.

Used them on the receives to spot them down field on passing plays.

The LSU white jerseys have become pretty iconic. LSU just doesn’t look like LSU in purple jerseys. The white unis are sharp.

But, frick LSU

I think the rule was changed to the home team determines the colors to be worn. So technically LSU can only be forced to wear purple on the road.

And now I think both teams can wear home unis as long as there's enough contrast between the two.

Ms State and aggy couldn't both wear homes but Florida and Tennessee could.

Has any visiting team accidentally shown up in their typical road whites?
