If memory serves that was the first season after Bama canned Curry.
As a UK fan you do remember Curry right?
Bama lost to Southern Miss that season.

Welp, that game made Louisville somewhat relevant.

My high school had a guy that played on that Alabama team. I remember it - but do not remember the details surrounding it.

Johnny U probably did the most to make the Line Beards relevant.

I think the Tide bowl game against Utah is the one I'm still scratching my head about. Shocking result is an understatement but I sensed Bama didn't wanna play that boring team from the start.

Schnellenberger was a heckuva coach.

It was a strange matchup because Arizona wouldn't recognize MLK Day as a holiday so a bunch of teams declined to play in the Fiesta that season. That's why 7-4 Alabama was there.
I'm certain it would've been #6 FSU vs #7 Penn State but they both declined and played in the Blockbuster Bowl instead (present day Champs Sports/Russell Athletic/Camping World Bowl).

Shocking that one of the best teams in Louisville history, with a record of 9-1-1, beat a 7-4 Bama team that was without its best tailback, and two best WRs.

I remember the Clarion Ledger mentioning in the paper around that time that Ole Miss (9-2) had a good chance at the Fiesta Bowl bid, but the Fiesta Bowl committee chose Alabama instead.
By the way, I always wondered if the Alabama team wasn't focused on that game because they had just ended a four-game losing streak to Auburn the prior month.

That was my freshman year. Most of that season sucked.

We had 5 or 6 turnovers and lost by 3 if I remember correctly.
