Richard Zane (reporter) has stated in several interviews that when he asked the question, he thought he was tossing Schloss a softball of a question that would give him the opportunity to easily shut down the rumors. We all know now that’s not how it went. Nobody expected JS to lose his shite and to call people selfish for questioning him.

That’s what makes the question necessary

This is the real concern for the low IQ sip. Before tu and its fans care about winning or losing they care about public perception. They wrote the book on sports communication, marketing and managing the media. That's a lot easier if the majority of journalists in the state are also alumni of the institution.

Schloss's public display that evening tarnished their "We're Texas" tin star. That was evident in his introductory press conference where he attempted to regurgitate the carefully crafted talking points prepared for him by the SID's office.

You can't care about a program and then go to their daddy rival.
It happens every day in pro sports. I understand not liking major college sports have become that, but it is what it is.

Tell Texas that you and your agent will talk to them after the season is over rather than actively negotiating while your current team is on a national championship run

Considering A&M hired Elko less than 48 hours after Dukes final regular season game, I don't think that argument holds any weight.

Of what?

Short term, Aggies still thought he was staying so he went ahead with his plans.

Long term, sure he came across as a jerk but that happens all the time in sports media. It will be generally forgotten.

I don't think the question really changed anything.

Honestly, after watching the press conference I suspected even more that he was leaving as he had the perfect opportunity to put the rumors to bed and he didn't.
Same. Coaches who are leaving always go on a passionate rant. Coaches who are staying rarely get worked up.

Your argument fails completely.

Jimbo Fisher was fired on November 5, 2023.

Mike Elko was announced as the new hire on November 26, 2023.

Any back-channel negotiations took place over a period of 3-4 weeks at most.

David Pierce was fired on June 23, 2024.

___________ was hired on June 24, 2024.

Any back-channel negotiations took place over a period of 3 months.

Let me put this in simpler terms.

Had A&M done what you did, they would have started negotiating with Elko at the beginning of the 2023 football season.

That’s fine, your opinion. But it did change things for A&M fans..

Isn’t that who’s interests he is asking the question on behalf of?

Back-channel negotiations can happen a year in advance. Doesn’t always materialize, but more and more schools want ducks in a row and a quick transition rather than a long, public search.

Anybody who immediately takes another coaching job after using their family as a shield to blast a person for asking if he is leaving is an a-hole.

When you add in the fact that Austin is even further from said family in Fort Worth AND the real reason they aren't with him is b/c *drumroll* he cheated on his wife well... that's some pretty good evidence he's actually a terrible person.

On one hand it was the ultimate dick move, I feel bad for A&M, I wouldn’t even like this if it happened to Bama with Auburn… but on the other hand… they offered him 3 million in a sport that doesn’t make that much money comparatively.

The problem is with Schlossnagle going along with the covert nature of it all…very underhanded dealings

My kid is a soon to be soph at A&M. Told me that it has been reported by neighbors that there was a moving truck and movers moving Schloss's belongings out of his house the Sunday prior to the start of the CWS. Have you heard anything about that?

Considering you actually have no idea what took place and when negotiations started, its a very fair argument.

While Duke was still in their regular season Elko was obviously contacted with about leaving (A&M logic) and negotiations had started. Pot meet kettle.
