No one is worried about mediocre Texas and Oklahoma. You both would finish with a losing record if you played in the SEC this year.

You would know, I guess. Vols have NINE losing seasons since 2000.

UCF only has an endowment of $165 million.
Actually, as of this year, the endowment is $201 Million (according to Wikipedia). But the larger story is that UCF is a pretty new university (only became UCF in 1978) and so they haven't had as much time to accumulate massive endowment contributions as older schools. That will change as the alumni base grows. Current enrollment is around 70,000, second highest among public universities. UCF is a good "get" for the Big 12 and gives the conference a good foothold in Florida. They've got the potential to develop into a major program and compete as an equal with the other Florida schools.

Get this, UGA doesn’t have to rely on an endowment, they have the most favorable tax levy capacity for a state legislature in the country. The State of GA has a personal and corporate GDP of over a trillion dollars annually and top 3 bond rating. They could raise Harvard’s entire endowment in a ten year bond float.

Most of Texas’s endowment is from 2 million acres it owns and receives royalties on oil and gas. It currently has 42.2 billion in endowments. Harvard is just ahead with 45 billion. Harvards endowments are from donations and royalties on patents and copyrights.

If Tulane can hang on to Willie Fritz for a few years and maintain the kind of success they're having I'd be dollars to donuts they get a Big 12 invite. At least Yulman isn't rusted and on the verge of crumbling.

The larger story is that UCF is a regional commuter school (what Alabama sports media guy John Longshore calls a “directional school”), and they always will be. After the Big 12 collapses and the name teams join superconferences, UCF will be back in a minor league. We’ve seen this movie before.
See: USF’s brief membership in the Big East years ago.
