I recall Brian Kelly was paid an extra $1M he never paid back.

Yes he did. That happened in 2022 and was reconciled over the 2023 fiscal year

"LSU management and the head football coach have enacted an adjusted payment schedule so the amount of overpayment will be recouped by the conclusion of fiscal year 2023," the Legislative Auditor's report stated.

Do people just hear terms like money laundering on TV and then think it applies to any transaction they were not provided all the details on?

Funneling state funds to an NIL fund is a crime in 49 states only apparently

Sounds like innovative thinking to me I wish the people in charge at UF were this determined to get players.

LSU and A&M fans don’t spar anymore. I chose to believe Kelly is unethical.

You really think Brian Kelly is out of a million dollars out of his own money? That’s nothing some Louisiana accounting can’t put back in his pocket.

That's the point. He's promised to donate the money to the Tiger Athletic Foundation. TAF has nothing to do with NIL, and the donation is a tax write off. Bayou Traditions is LSU's NIL collective. If he donated the money to the collective it would not be tax deductible. It's a win-win for Kelly.

This has got to be the dumbest most roundabout way of trying to pay athletes on the face of earth. There are so many glaring loopholes in the way government accounting is done, it seems you are just trying to spit in the face of government auditors if you tried to pull this off. What is the point? Just get normal donors to the general athletics fund to pay into the collective instead. Yeah they lose the deduction on their tax return but the university has ways of sweetening the deal off the books. Giving donors access is the main way they have done it in the past. You just play with the numbers so everyone is happy and nobody violates a law.

Those laws are the equivalent of:
