No, it's simply exposing the hypocrisy of the Bama position. Either tradition is most important, or fairness is. You sacrifice fairness (in your favor) for tradition when you want to keep your annual cakewalk with Tennessee, but when another proposal does the same (but to your disadvantage in the fairness department), you suddenly think it's ridiculous.

Let's do an experiment. Forget cross-division for a moment. Why don't we divide the divisions up based on the historical strength of the programs? Would that make it better?

"Big Six":
East:
Georgia
Tennessee
Florida

West:
Auburn
Alabama
LSU

Change to:
East:
Auburn
Georgia
Florida
USCe
Vandy
UK
MSU

West:
Alabama
Tennessee
LSU
Ole Miss
A&M
Missouri
Arkansas

Or put all the traditional bad-asses in one division to make it fair:
shite Division:
Missouri
UK
Vandy
Ole Miss
MSU
A&M
Arkansas

Bad-arse Division:
Georgia
Auburn
Alabama
LSU
USCe
Tennessee
Florida

That's really the only way to make it fair. Of course, some of the teams in the bad-arse division will start to fail and become nobodies. And some in that division are currently shitty programs.

So, let's do a hybrid. All teams that finished in the top 4 of the conference and some traditional winners in one division:

Bad-Asses:
Alabama
LSU
Georgia
Florida
Tennessee
USCe

Shitty Historically/Not top 4 Programs:
A&M
Arkansas
Ole Miss
MSU
UK
Vandy
Missouri

I think we have a winner!!!

NOW, it doesn't fricking matter, because all the Shitty Division teams are shitty, so scheduling problems are solved.

Not exactly, it's going by the old rotation but transitioning to the new one. That's why (unless things change like going to 9 games or dropping cross division permanents) we will get Georgia next year, then USC, then Florida, then Vandy, then Mizzou, then Kentucky, and so on. Rinse and repeat.

hey, A&M is a shitty program that will return to historically shitty results once JFF commits suicide and Sumlin is pontificated. This is ABSOLUTELY fair.

I think I may have proved every point made in this thread at once? Or disproved them. Or, most likely, just confused the frick out of everybody.

When you look through the million plus scheduling threads on this Board you see plenty of reasonable arguments (and maybe some silly ones too) from LSU Fans asserting why they disagree with the current scheduling format (disproportionate strengths of schedules within the division, lack of variety in cross division opponents etc.). But in response, it seems like all other fans want to do is name call. Where are the reasonable opposition arguments? I’m beginning to suspect that you don’t see such reasonable arguments because the majority of you know that Les Miles is right. There is no reason why any school should have to make sacrifices for the sake of another school’s traditions and get nothing in return. I don’t think anyone, not Coach Miles, not the players and not the fans, has a problem with playing the schedule put before them if that schedule is fair. I can accept that scheduling is difficult and not everyone will ever be happy but shouldn’t there be at least some attempt at fairness?

Take the NFL for example, each team in a particular division plays each of its division mates twice; each team in a particular division plays 8 other common opponents (e.g. In a given year each NFC south team will play each NFC East team and Each AFC West team); the final two games are based on conference standings from the previous year (you play someone from the other conference who finished in a similar place as you). Thus, the schedules among the teams in a particular division are substantially similar. The Saints can’t complain about playing New England if everyone else who they’re competing against for a divisional title had to play them too. Why pointing something like this out is dismissed as whining is inexplicable to me. At the end of the day, the squeaky wheel gets the grease!

It's a rotation. Things rotate. Next year it'll be LSU with the easier schedule. That's really all that needs to be said, you LSU fans just don't get it. It's too simple for you, not enough conspiracy for your liking.

Wait, so some years some teams have hard schedules and other years they don't? this is crazy talk its almost like it rotates between teams. I thought it was every year bama played easy teams and every year LSU played the hardest teams. That's what I read here, so must be fact

Wait, that one team was opportunistic and manipulated the system for an easier schedule this year is irrelevant?
