He's better than all but one coach they've had.

Umm a moment of honesty here. Is the nice that thin at LSU that they would can the guy that has brought them so much so fast?
I know LSU doesn't like losing to Bama but his termination this season would be irrationally rash...

Gus' team was unranked two weeks ago, and they are still unranked.

Meanwhile Gus is dogshit and isn't going anywhere it appears.

don't do it, LSU. Trust me. I have seen a very bad fire destroy a program and it isn't easy to get it back. This could easily back fire on you guys if you go through with it.

LSU will regret such a move. I think Miles is a Top 5 coach nationally.
He's had some set backs at LSU. But he's also won some games for them. And, he's never pulled a Meyer no matter how much a defeat to Bama may have hurt.
He just needs to develop a match up advantage against Bama. Overall I think he's going to beat Arky more than not.

Does LSU have $13M lying around to buyout the contract?

This is a terrible year to be on the market to buy a new coaching staff.

Though an Alabama graduate, 4th-gen legacy, etc., I've lived in New Orleans for 35 years and followed LSU closely because I am a prep football fan.
My opinion, Les Miles is limited upstairs. I'm not kidding and that goofiness isn't an act. He cannot change because he actually has no idea how to do anything different or organize his team differently.
The last four-five recruiting classes at LSU have been very flawed. There are simply no defensive linemen, very few quality OL, SEC LBs are almost non existent. One year no DTs at all were recruited. All those highly rated recruiting classes were built on a few quality players, all of whom played the same positions.
So what about this 2015 recruiting class where LSU has the current #1 class? Same thing all over again. Two DT, two OL have been recruited thus far despite the obvious need. I won't bother to compare Alabama's recruiting class thus far this year which has concentrate on the OL and front 7 (again) despite the plethora of talent they already have in those positions.
Next year is shaping up to possibly be a black hole for LSU. Questions abound at Qb, OL, DE, DT, LBs and the team is going to have to play a LOT of freshmen. It will not be possible for LSU to field a team with much of a power game unless he recruits the heck out of jr. college players...which he has not done in the past. And the power game is just about the only thing he knows.
Last problem I see is the culture that has existed in the locker room since Perriloux. Cliques, attitudes, work ethic... it is more akin to a River Parish high school team (and river parish players are the core of the team). That culture is one reason it is hard to recruit certain type players from out of state.
Truth is... Miles really is a nice guy, not a bad coach (except on the sidelines of a game), but he is limited and it will take 3-4 years to rebuild a contending team because the recruiting scheme has simply left too many holes. Plus it is going to take a Texas-type rooting out of the current what-me-worry culture.
Maybe it is time for LSU to cut the losses. Perhaps he should consider retiring with honor.

The loss in the BCS title game stands like a milepost at which LSU’s program began a slow but documentable decline, particularly in terms of SEC records, a loss from which it seems the program has never truly recovered.
It's for real

With the talent coming back and the recruiting class we want to keep in tact... No way LSU gets rid of him(not to mention the $$). Unlike alot of our fans...the university gets how valuable he is to our program and our school as a whole. Let's really hope Harris makes some huge improvement from year one to two starting or we could be in for another long Nov next year. I think if Miles can finally win the home game vs Bama (and not let it slip away at the end) I think that would be a huge boost to our team and could make us a big threat next year. Have to give Miles that shot, by far the least he has earned.
