Damn. Sorry Vols. And RIP to a true southern gentleman, one of the greats of the southern game, and a damn fine coach.
Somebody get over to Vince Dooley's and wrap him in bubble wrap and get a breather on him.

RIP
I'm sure seeing the college football hall of fame ransacked didn't help him

He sure lived a long time considering that gaping hole Fulmer left in his back

Things usually happen in threes.. I wonder if Phat Phil Fulmer is a little nervous.

My condolences to the Tennessee family. Always hate to see our legends pass on.

A nice thread to remember a great Tennessee coach getting hijacked by 2 a-hole Ga and Bama fans, what a surprise.

He was an assistant coach at Mississippi State from 1960-1963. My Dad always liked him through the years. He was a great friend to the Bulldog family and Nation and always had kind words to say about his time in Starkvegas.
It is interesting that the 1963 State team was 4 points away from an undefeated SEC season and Championship. Coach Majors was an assistant coach of that team and no doubt a big reason for its success.
We lost to Bama 20-19
and had two ties
Florida 9-9
Ole Miss 10-10.
That team finished with a conference record of 4-1-2 and an overall record of 7-2-2. Oh so close to a conference championship.
They won the famous Liberty (Ice) Bowl That year, the last one played in PHL. The temperature that day was about 10 degrees. Game was against NC State and the final score was 16-12.
During the radio broadcast, Jack Cristil uttered his famous phrase “ that the weather was colder than a pawn brokers heart”

Nobody is taking anything away from a great gentlemen and coach
like Johnny Majors and he'd probably be the first to say the same about a repulsive human being like Fulmer.

Condolences to the VOLS fans out there. He was one of the legends of the SEC and Tennessee.
RIP Coach.

My uncle played with Johnny in high school. When I talked to coach Majors in 2010 I told him I grew up in middle Tennessee but was a life long MSU fan. He said, "that's all right, I coached there before I went to Arkansas and Iowa State. MSU is a great school with a beautiful campus." Even if you aren't a UT fan, you should read Johnny's book "You Can Go Home Again." There are some memorable stories of Johnny growing up in Lynchburg, a tiny farming community and home of Jack Daniel Distillery and professional fisherman Bill Dance.

Add Charlie McClendon and Paul Dietzel to the list as well.

I was thinking about the SEC coaches of the 80's (Dye and Major's passing brought it to mind).
I can't believe that Watson Brown is only 70.
Galen Hall is still alive and kicking...
Vince Dooley is nearly 90 and still around.
Ray Perkins is currently a volunteer HS football coach.
Fran Curci is still around
George MacIntyre...died in 2016
Billy Brewer...died in 2018
Jerry Claiborne died in 2000
Emory Bellard...died in 2011
Bill Arnsparger...died in 2015
Add Charlie McClendon and Paul Dietzel to the list as well.

Will miss Johnny Majors, I can remember him leading Pitt to a national championship.
Great player and great coach.
Johnny Robinson of USC is at LSU and helping the football program, also Marcus Allen.

Neither coached in the SEC in the 80's...but both made huge marks on their respective programs.
