The last time Alabama fell in an SEC opener was September 14, 1991 when they were shutout 35-0 at the Swamp.

Ole Miss could very well challenge that streak this year.

They said a few years ago that was the longest streak not only in the SEC's history, but all conferences period.

I mean, winning 24 straight conference openers is ridiculous, especially considering there were some dumpster fire teams in there that had to keep the streak going.

It's not hard to have a long winning streak when you schedule perennial bottom dwellers of the SEC as opening opponents

The schedule dynamics have changed a lot recently. a few years back LSU would get at least 3 OOC games to work out the kinks before conference play, but lately we've gotten State, UGA, and Auburn much earlier it seems. I'm not making excuses, it just seems that way recently

Couple of years ago it was a top ten TAMU team on the road and usually its Arkansas which is at least a ranked team half the time. What else ya got wonderboy?

Meh, he has a good point actually.

Since this streak began in 1992 Alabama has played the following first SEC game opponents:

92: Vandy
93: Vandy
94: Vandy
95: Vandy
96: Vandy
97: Vandy
98: Vandy
99: Vandy
00: Vandy
01: Vandy
02: Ark
03: UK
04: Miss
05: SC
06: Vandy
07: Vandy
08: Ark
09: Ark
10: Ark
11: Ark
12: Ark
13: A&M
14: UF

Mostly bad teams. That streak isn't as impressive as it sounds, particularly through the 90s with all the Vandy matchups. It's gotten better lately. Some good Arkansas teams (particularly 2010 and 2011) and a good A&M team in 2013.

I don't really concern myself with the head to head record of two lower tier programs.

Was Vandy your permanent cross division game instead of Tennessee?

They both were. We all used to have 2.
