Guys, was up all night wondering what the future holds for my second favorite team of all time, the Ole Miss Rebels. I was very concerned and anxious about the future of the storied football program and whether it was in good hands. Here is why im deeply concerned. Lane’s head coaching record back to 09:

2009 Tennessee 7-6
2010 USC 8-5
2011 USC 10-2
2012 USC 7-6
2013 USC 3-2
2017 FAU 11-3
2018 FAU 5-7
2019 FAU 10-3
2020 Ole Miss 5-5 (season not counted by NCAA so could give him a freebie I guess)
2021 Ole Miss 10-3
2022 Ole miss 8-5
2023 Ole Miss 11-2

He’s one of the most hyped coaches in football. Why? The popcorn game is almost symbolic for his career, a lot of hype, terrible outcome. Is he SEC material? Seems like he’s be better off coaching in the Big 12 (Mizzou? Kansas?) based on that record. If you want more of those coveted SEC west banners, I don’t think he’s the guy for the job.

Ole Miss fans I’d like to hear from you. This is not a troll. I pull for Ole Miss except when they play LSU and sometimes I even switch team allegiances. Want you guys to succeed.

Records look good to me. It’s been difficult for any coach to win big at any of those schools

Dude just won a NY6 bowl, had a goat season for Ole Miss and will be preseason top ten going into 2024.

That’s overrated?

Those are not good records, but the guy is hyped more than any other coach, I heard multiple times “LSU would be dangerous with Kiffin.” No one has been dangerous with Kiffin. He’ll be good for a few surprises and ruining someone else’s playoff game or whatever, will sadly never bring another shiny SEC west banner to the great university.

But he’s been hyped well before this year. Good coach. Not great. Ole Miss deserves better. I love Ole Miss.

Look dingleberry, he’s had One losing season out of 12 at schools where it’s difficult to win. Those are good records especially considering those schools.
If you’re looking to argue, try finding another issue that you know more about

It’s hard to win at USC, IIRC there was so much competition in the PAC 10 (back then). You’re right. I can’t imagine having to beat Arizona every year.

We’ve reduced grading a coach based on “not having losing records.” OK. See how quick Kirby gets canned if he has a 7-6 season back to back.

OP should have done more homework and tallied up the record and compared to other HCs records with similar years on the job. This is weak!

He's had two seasons of 10 wins or more at Ole Miss. You have to go back to the days of Johnny Vaught and segregation to find another coach with multiple 10-win seasons in Oxford.

Kiffin was down thirty scholarships at USC.

You also probably (or should have) known this after taking all the time for this poor troll attempt.

But overrated or not. He’s doing better than Kelly at LSU.

He’s set up to make the playoffs. Hard to overrate that.

Is he a good coach? Sure. Great coach? frick no. The point of this thread is not to say he’s a BAD coach, just that he’s overrated.

Where has he been besides USC that he could have won more? Ole Miss at 11 wins in like LSU NC. That’s the ceiling there.

He checks all the boxes you want for someone in charge of your program in 2024

-recruits at a high level (portal and high school)
-can identify talent and develop that talent
-fits his system to best players on roster
-well connected in coaching circles so staff turnover doesn’t cause massive disruptions
-has won everywhere he’s been

Everyone’s knock on him is him never winning “the big game”, but he has never stayed anywhere long enough to do it until now. Fans of Kiffin will give him wins over Penn State & LSU this year as big wins and win @Tenn 2 years ago as a big win, but haters will say he sucks until he beats Kirby and saban.

I wouldn’t trade him for Brian Kelly. And by your standard, he sucks too because he can’t win big games.

Yeah, hardly any coaches have had any success at UT or USC

And he is 20-13 (.606) against SEC teams

Ed Orgeron was 23-17 (.575) vs SEC teams at LSU (not including 2019, he was 31-17 with 2019)

So hes been slightly better than Ed without 2019

Dan Mullen could coach too, I guess. Just not sure why Kiffin was so hyped in comparison. Kiffin is the biggest name talked about every time a coaching spot comes available (a lot hoping he doesn’t take the Bama job, a lot were relieved he didn’t take the LSU job). It’s just hot air.

Lol, just stop. Anyone who thinks he’s doing better at Ole Miss than Kelly is at LSU is a total idiot. BK made the SECCG his first season. Kiffin hasn’t done it in 4. Kelly was about 5 seconds away from winning that Ole Miss game and swapping records. This is what I mean. He’s “doing better at Ole Miss” but you have nothing to base that on whatsoever, other than the fact that he finished slightly better this year. If BK has 2 bad seasons at LSU the next 2 years it will be a more appropriate comparison.

- 20 wins > 19 wins
- 12 SEC wins > 10 SEC wins
- 1 Heisman > 0 Heismans
- Better recruiting classes in both years
